If you qualify no.8 in an eight car field running say 11.2...you'll get no.1 qualifier running 9's? in round 1 would you not?...in a heads up class with no breakout your gonna go out in round 1, not a lot of point in that, how do you stop that happening?......just interested ;)

Lez you can race the tree all year ,at the Pod ,Shakey and York,So why not run heads up just one time ..... Its about gathering these cars together and racing properly......RWYB is fine ,you get to go up against quicker and slower cars so what does it matter how you do it as long as you do it...... and its a cheap weekends racing , In time if it grows i am sure it will have to be a tree race untill then i am in win or loose :thumbright:Lez the two cars in the final were both small block Chevys,,,and there was some big block Mopars in the field????

So all your doing is having your own RWYB really and calling it SS racing but limiting the cars to springs etc..etc..and on mtr.

Well thats fine for a bit of fun, and a cheap day out?....at least that cuts out tube cars and N20 and the like, its a step towards "proper" heads up racing but still a long way from it.

You could add no race fuel, iron headed mtrs only, unless ally's were production fitted, only 1 carb and no Dommies...just a thought, that would bring it even closer....Basically as an example, you gotta find a way of stopping someone like Micks car coming up against a no hoper iron headed BB A/B/E bod running 10:1 on pump....the same with other makes if you want real "have a chance racing". You could have a top class where all those are allowed....you could call them SS/A and SS/B perhaps?

Heads up racing will never really work over here as I don't think we have enough people who would build a car for a specific class with proper rules, everyone just goes there own way with there builds.

Only way you can have fair racing here is brackets/dial ins etc......thats :mytwocents:

Couple things Les, next year i'll be way behind the curve, this year was my decent shot and i blew it, with a too safe reaction time and a bad handling car. Next year with Tig, Nick and one or two faster cars will up the ante more and i'm looking forward to it win or lose.
With enough entrants, maybe it could be split into 2 classes, 10.50 or faster and 10.50 or slower
If it ends up a bracket so be it, it's a very cool class.

i agree it needs to be bracket racing, it dont matter how much asleep a 10 second driver might be he is always gonna beat a 12 second car,

if its heads up you need 2 tenths difference max in performance that way a slower car could win in heads up,

I agree Mick it is a cool class, just the name conjours up all those great images of those SS cars!.......time cut offs won't work though, firstly its open to sandbagging, (we don't know all the cars times), and secondly as Duncan says you can't have much more than 2/10ths difference in performance of the cars to make it a "race"...its like you coming up against Cliff Turner, you wanna have a fair shot....as I said its hard to make it fair for proper heads up over here....even iron against ally heads etc etc, you still got CI as a prob, plus all these strokers.....I can just see engine teardowns.....it don't need to be as strict as USA as we don't have the cars but.....................

Anyways I'm sure it'll be fun next year even with the shoe white on the window, its still adrenalin time on the tree either way..... 8-)

I think the key thing here is it is getting like-minded people with similar cars together for an event. Which is nice.

If you were really a pot hunter you would probably be using a difference weapon ;) ;)

I hope it is supported and encouraged; and it could develope over future years. Well done Pete for getting it off the ground :thumbright:

nah pete look at it from another point of view i dont know how many runs you can have free gratis but if some guy in a 12 second car comes up on a 10 second car first pass .. boom he is out on the trailor.. hardley seems fair to me,,,,
i sure will support it 1060 hp 604 cube hemi .920 lift roller cam 14-1 compression twin 1250 dommies and a top gun 600 hp gas kit and run against mick with the black road runner.

Some of you just don,t get it......its just a bit of fun,,thats it,,,pre 74 yanks racing each other ... you get five attempts to qualie and if you get knocked out you join the RWYB,,, no waiting in the fire up road for a go....your class gets called and you run.......Duncan if you have got a big ole hemi with twin dommies ,,,as long as there is no gas and it runs on springs then bring it on........ Its just meant to be a bit of fun at one meeting a year , some of you blokes need to get out more,,,, you disect every post looking for floors ,just put your car on the trailer chuck some beers in the boot and race ,,thats if you have a car to race of course :thumbright:

Ok, so I should've taken note of the title of the thread and realised it was only a 1 time a yr event, but it was the way your words came across that I thought it was gonna be a regular series with proper racing as you put it, and I thought at last someone with a bit of knowledge starting a class with proper rules...thats sadly been lacking in this country for a long time.

I don't have a car your right Pete....but you never know, if a "Real" HU class emerged and was run with proper rules and gave everybody a chance...I might get the urge back with a class car, and that would get me out more

I'm not looking to disect posts, I'll leave that for others...I thought that this class could become something really big which would mean you would need a good set of fair rules for once, so I put my views forward as to how I thought that could be.

I thought I might just have enough past cred to do that?

At least one person got my drift :thumbright:
