Had a similar experience-
my black lab (also Hemi !)
got attacked by 2 alsations - I also jumped in and got bitten after booting one in the ribs
owner was a joke ! arrogant prick- laughed at me and said I should have kept out the way as thats what dogs do !!!
later materilised they had done it before

Aww he looks nice !!
I'm not a dog owner at present (no time ) but I grew up with them and love them.
My personal opinion is that the owners are totally at fault.
Carl made some good points.
My cuz was a police dog handler for most of his career and kept his last dog. It could rip you to bits at a command. But happily play with kids !!!!
I was shocked reading the replies on how common this problem is !!!

LOL
Reminds me of when a runner came past me while I was walking Billy.
I brought Billy to heel and we stood right on the edge of the path to give the runner plenty (about 4 feet) or room and he smacked me in the back with his elbow as he came past, almost knocking me over.
I caught up with him eventually (it took a quarter mile and it was not easy in a heavy coat and heavy walking boots - but I was annoyed) and he denied touching me and said he didn't feel a thing.
So I elbow-struck him across the jaw, stood over him (he was now on his back) and (with hardly any breath from running) asked "Did you feel that?" and walked away.
