I would not either use the MP paint or rely on much that they say tbh! However it is broadly correct in that description, as my post, 340's going to blue. What is not correct is that it happened in 1972, it was some time in 1971, has been extensively debated in the US and off the top of my head it was around Q2 1971. Not far off 1972MY, so close!

Not that most people are probably that bothered but just for the record! I only know because I wanted to paint mine orange and was interested whether it was correct or not....but would have done it anyway!

Hi Mick sorry I have not been around to pick the bonnet up hope to be doing that in the near future. Dave 81 yes TTI I bought for £150 the bloke had put them on and then changed his mind a couple of weeks later and put them on ebay and nobody bid on them.
MrNorm its an EDELBROCK - Fuel Injection System, Performer RPM Pro-Flo EFI, that I also bought of ebay. The 1969 Dodge Darts with the 383 engines in were painted Turquoise so it being a 408 I painted it that colour. The other 1969 Dart GTS 340 that I had back in the 1970's the engine was painted red.
Its a stroked 360 block. Thanks for all the kind words. I still have some small block bits for sale if anyone is interested I will post some pictures when when I work out how to use the camera.

Yes, the turquoise.
The truth is probably that as usual Mopar had a plan (probably 72MY?) but that is not the way it happened. So many sites may say one thing or another but the only way to know for sure is to find 71 orange engines with close date codes to 71 blue engines and see when they switched. That is the debate I mentioned above, with the result mentioned too.

Looks great Dave, any pics of the car. Somehow seemed to have missed seeing the actual vehicle which I recall you have had for decades!
My 1972 340 block is the same blue by the way.

Milesnmiles the car has been off the road since 1996 it solid but in a bad way only rust around the rear arches though and the paint is almost back to the primer. Even though it don't matter to me I was talking to a bloke that runs a Dart site in the states and he told me that the colour combination on 1969 Darts being silver with a light metalic green interior wasn't offered in 1969 so mine would be a one of one colour combination.
By the way Miles I think I have a full gasket set for a small block that you can have if you want just pay the postage. I know the head gaskets are there but its the small ones that I am not sure of but you are welcome to what I have.

What difference does it make what colour it is ?

The poor bloke said he's been out of work for ages, no money, yet managed to keep his chin up & put the motor together on limited funds & keep the rest of his world in tack..... & you want to know if he's painted the block the right bloody colour...

Anyone can throw a shedload of money at a small block stroker and build a half decent engine, but to build one to a strict budget is a real achievement.
