I've never worried what's in the next lane.
I race myself. Just try to improve on launch etc and get a good steady ET.
I would be more concerned on how early to fire up the engine etc to get the car happy before its abuse !!!

As mentioned by Steve, sometimes there can be too much help, pre arrange help if possible or stick to the advice of one person.

As Dave said, study the lights, watch a few cars go down the track to familiarise your self.

Probably best to do a burn out, again your chosen one should be able to indicate if it's enough or more. Always seems much bigger burnout when your in the car.

It's handy, if your chosen help, can guide you into the beams, but not absolutely necessary.

Better to have a bad or slower reactions at 1st, as you will at least get a time slip. The more goes you have, the better you will get to feel of how your car reacts.

It is hard not to react to the car in the opposite lane, but that will come with time.
Most importantly, it's all about having a good time & enjoying yourself.

I will see you into the burn out box and to the staging beams if you want.

Back in the old days, the boys did used to get home via the AA if broke, they would even come in and pick you up, after a while you had to tow the car out from the track....Nowadays I doubt if they'd wear it...worth a try if it came to it though.

My mate Wil is hopefully gonna come along in my Truk so I'll be able to bring trolley jack, tyre pump, decent amount of tools, spare fuel, etc. Oh, and a tow rope, just in case...
