How the hell do you stop sump gaskets leaking?!!!

hi guys. I use red hermetite on my gaskets. the blue hylomar ive always found to be of no use. oil breaks it down, and red hermetite stays sticky and don't seem to break down on oil getting at it. reggie

Regarding will it fit a 68 318, no.

All LA Engines except the 360 have the smaller main bearing size. AFAIK this gasket was designed for Magnum engines, which means it will fit LA 360's as well but not other LA's (shame :(). The Magnum 318 has the same larger mains size so it would fit a 318 Magnum.

This is my understanding of which I am fairly sure, but I welcome any corrections!!

Talk about coincidence, just went onto Moparts and there was a thread related to this

1 piece gasket.

It reminded me of the other difference.....the Magnum gasket (this one) leaves a bit of a gap that needs filling (metal, silicone, whatever) if used on a LA 360 (with an LA 360 sump). As always I've heard slightly different experiences but it does seem that this is required...
