I have also seen drilled butterfly plates
I think they drill butterfly plates as a last resort on engines with long duration cams and a poor idle. It allows a higher idle speed without moving the throttle stop/ butterfly position hence uncovering too much of the transition slot Otherwise the idle is using the transition slot and there will not be a smooth transition to the main jet.

Carb plate looks good in the videos

Shayne
That would make sense, especially if it worked

I normally find cracking open the secondaries a bit more does the trick, I've only ever had to drill the primaries in extreme cases, I try to avoid it as it can't be undrilled....

I have one of them "doohickeys" coming over next weekend with a mate, hope it will cure the small lag between pedal and action ..

I would also be very interested to hear how it performs, the video shows quite a difference between the before and after fitting.

Drew, was your a rich or lean off ideal stumble? My Demon has the same and the AF shows it jumps lean and wondering if this item might improve matters.

Yea it was a stumble that I could not find,I never used an AF meter, but I used a pyrometer , and a vacuum gauge for idle, and also checking the plugs to make sure they are a nice golden brown to get as lean as possible, and the car ran very well at the track at WOT, around town the constant stumble made the carb un streetable with the cam I have , once I tuned the edlebrock,it has much nicer street manners, in the end I intend of installing FI from Fit technology's,or Holly ,,I am about done with carbs, the new FI is really nice and I have spoken to several others one being the road kill show, they drove a 440 charger out here though the desert with out any issues so as funds allow that will be my next thing , this power plate made a huge difference, but I still feel there is power being left on the bench if you will and fi just might be a batter way to get it out of this engine

Yea it is not a problem with all carbs ,just is a cheap way to al least make it more street friendly,I am up to my elbows in a vette tach removal, anybody wanna buy a really nice vette once I get the tach working it is a really nice car, just a PIA to work on :banghead: I have a plate for it too, just wanted to tackle this first ,it has a holly 625 double pumper, and it too has a stumble, but since it is a 4 speed it is not as bad, just rev the engine a bit, but the auto in my dodge is different ,so I do have another to experiment on

I saw this Thompson thing too and thought it seemed a good idea. My Challenger always has an off idlel stumble so I'd be interested to here more views on its effectiveness.

After watching the video I decided to just go ahead and buy one, it arrived yesterday and took ten minuets to fit. The plate does exactly what it shows in the video and make the engine run very smoothly in the garage.
Yet to try it on the road :thumbright:

Any road tested updates appreciated. Looks like $80 for my Demon, so need to have more 'seat of the pants' updates.

Pete,
It took you only 10 mins to fit - did you fully remove your carb' and do it on a workbench, or just do it in-situ'?
Still need to fit mine.....

You'll be able to do it in situ but it will be fiddly if you still have a choke plate. I would recommend stuffing paper towel down the carb bores for when you drop the bits half a dozen times
