cheers for all the help guys, but it turns out if been a massive idiot this entire time. The answer to all my problems was a tiny, stupid thing i never even considered, the alternator gauge wires. Hooked them up and bam, car started. Thankfully i never took the steering lock off, so it was never the switch, all i have to do now is put it all back together again, hopefully in time for the nats.

spoke too soon, seems like i have a problem with my new turn signal switch and break lights. Turn key and the hazard just start flashing, as well as flasher unit under the dash somewhere. Key off and still ticking. then if wiggle about the hazard switch on the new switch, it sort of stops flashing at the same time and will either flash one after the other or if i turn the cam it will flash the opposite side.
The front flashers also dont seem to want to work either. The turn lever threads also seem to be messed up as now it is very floppy, and when the lever is screwed in i can bend it front and back.
The break lights also dont work at all, even though it is a new switch and its in the right position.
