Hot rod drags.
Gutted I can't make it this year, always thought it was a great event when I've been before, 😀.hope the mopar boys are having a blast 😀.any pic .

Best event this year for me.
Great people and a massive amount of cars I've not seen before. Weather was a bit naff compared to every other HRDs event I've been too, but can't really blame the track for that. Its an event that is gaining in popularity every year.
The atmosphere was very good, had a close knit community feel to it with everyone happy to talk and show you around the cars/trucks/rods.
Got two runs in so a tick off the bucket list, as it's the first time I've ever been down the 1/4......plus the car is still in one piece, Bonus!
For those that couldn't make it, you missed probably the best dancing I've every seen, on a Friday night, in front of the live band. Never laughed so much before. Thanks to Philthy Phil, Blue and Dave999. Big thanks to Chris and Rose too for the Hospitality and tea during the rain stops.
Hope the rumours are true for 2018......

What was the tech inspection like? What do they look for at shakey, hoping to get a run in tomorrow if the weather holds up

Tech inspection is easy, they just check it isn't a deathtrap and your seat belt inertia reel works. No major leaks etc.

I have been told by a fairly reliable source that that's it, the other businesses on site have been given notice to quit by November and Shakey closes. The same source also said the Pod have picked up the HRD's for next year, and the bulldog bash is moving to Liverpool? Glad you enjoyed hanging with us and our usual drunken antics....

Well done Dave for at least a safe run all round, did it feel like you were doing 90 😀. Did any other mopes have a run down ? What about you blue or were you too fresh😀.
It would be a real shame if it were to be the end, the place had a great atmosphere of its own,a bit rough n readyold skool, totally different to the pod.

What a weekend...............never seen so many people or cars there before, the place was rammed, how those old stands held together with so many siting on them is any bodies guess.
Dave 999 best time in his charger , well done mate car looking and sounds totally fierce.
Tim Holmes and his Polara were running very strong and the rest of the circus too, maybe the cooler air helped.
Word on the street is Pod have already signed up to HRD for 2018 , sooo hoping that to be the case, such a fantastic mixture of cars with some we had not seen before, ok so it was a bit wet at times but judging by the amount of cars that went it didn't put the hard core from not going, it was like so this is the last hurrah lets make it BIG and it was !!!!!

I always had an inkling that my slowness on the track was down to the size of my number plate. so in anticipation of the event I swapped it for a smaller one.
Prep done I closed the garage and waited until Friday.
As luck would have it I had failed to unpack the car since the NATS, so the weekend provided the opportunity to discover all the tools i've been looking for over the summer, and Friday morning just involved spare pants socks and something to sleep on.
I set off at a leisurely pace with my ear pressed to the dash listening for unfamiliar noises. M3 M35 M40
just before Beaconsfield services had a terrible case of popping farting and vibrating.
that cold sweat you get just before an encounter with the AA Man burst from my brow
so diverted off for an impromptu fiddle about with it
jet covers still on.....good
none of the bits of cable tie I had used as a retaining shim for the velocity stacks had come adrift. good
choke lock screws still in....good
all 12 jet stacks removed blown through and put back.....NICE
general yank on all the electrics.....MMmmmm
started it
adjusted idle mix

gave up on the previous "driving miss daisy" routine and hooooooned it up the M40 like i'd nicked it.
blew by a nova a 56 chevy and numerouse things with no fenders
chased by Australians in a range rover
all a bit of an adventure
Rumour has it that there is a sweet spot at about 86MPH.
Obviously that's just a rumour.
eventually peeled off the M40 at about 11:30 into Stratford behind a queue of interesting machinery

and off to be scruntinated by the scrutiniser
he did the usual swing about on my battery hold down, checked my throttle return spring and suggested i get some of the Bananarama! out of the car before going racing....
leisurely squirt up the track felt good.. didn't manage to read all the adverts this time so planned another, only to get rained off.
so I got on the beer with the usual crowd

The plate swap done good. 14.2 .....yeeehaaa 2.3 seconds faster than last years nats .2 seconds faster than this years NATS
quite pleased i was....
so determined to do better I went to the loo and only had an apple for my lunch
queued for Hours but nattered away to all and sundry
get to the pairing lanes and the starter stopped engaging. little embarrassing as I had to wind the motor over by hand to find a section of ring gear the starter liked, No damage done
Paired against an absolute monster of a ford pop. helmet and the racket he was making meant i couldn't even tell if the car was running
anyway he spilt his guts and got pushed back.
silence is golden.....
no pressure
14.1......NICE 3 tenths faster than a factory E49....
conclusion is the only thing holding me back from a 13 second 1/4 is the driver....
back round for a nice long queue

having felt this motor chew itself up once before, its like that "GIVE" just before you snap a stud.... a horrible sick feeling of dread filled me
backed off and turned right at the fire truck. congestion on the return road allowed some gentle blipping off the throttle
oil pressure good....
no smell of burning
temp below the middle of the gauge
no thumping banging or clattering
all ok
and it got me home
Beer fuelled dissection of the symptoms lead to "why don't you get something better than a standard slant 6 fuel pump Dave?"
so I might.....
and Blues appraisal "dave you need to learn how to shift"
very pleasing weekend The Anton built exhaust certainly gets me noticed
loads of Jaysis what the hell have you got in there.....? Wasps? type comments.
Saturday night spent in the bar with the dave and the mustang boys, phil and blue
I had no voice left after all the singing.
it rained, the power went off about 10 times, and to be honest we'd got a table and some seats so we stayed
up late Sunday, packed and home.
ran better on the way home but developed a nasty rattle from the shifter.
The car is ready packed for next years NATS.
All good fun
