REDLINE TYRES

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Ive sold my chrome 15" Magnum 500s so have pushed the boat out and bought a new set of Maxxis tyres and am going to have them redlined at Mr Whitewalls on Saturday (all being well). Thats my last Mopar dream almost bagged. They will go on my original painted 500s that the car came with. Always loved the look. The chrome ones with RWL tyres were nice but Im really into original looking stuff so hope they look nice.

Re: REDLINE TYRES
I hope so Blue. I really love redlines and 500s, I think its the best looking 60s Mopar wheel/ tyre combination. I had a small Hotwheels catalogue in the early 70s that I just stared at for hours (literally). They all had redlines on 500s and looked lovely.
Kilnhurst Tyres and Exhausts Ltd on Ebay are doing some great deals on 4 Maxxis tyres (£360 with free fast delivery). I dont think thats bad at all. Quite hard to find 14" tyres that look period so Im pleased. Will post some pics when they are done

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Visited Ant at Mr Whitewalls today and he did a grand job on the tyres for me.
At the moment Im a bit inbetween the 'less is more' camp and 'go big or go home'
As was explained to me, there are perameters and limits to the process so I had a choice to make. The tyres I bought had a fairly thick raised whiteline, thicker than a standard 3/8 line.
The choice was to cut a 3/8 shallow groove in the black side of the tyre but the red line would probably be affected by the black 'bleeding through' and would turn it brownish. Alternatively (and recommended) was to scuff the whiteline and do that red. Backed by the white would make the redline much sharper, bolder and permanent so I went for that.
In a perfect world it would be a bit narrower but I still really like it and am looking forward to seeing them on the wheels after the New Year.

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Thanks Bryan,
Im still a bit concerned that the redline will be too wide, they definately are redlines in every sense of the word
Im sure though when there is a Magnum 500 in the middle and they are under the arches they will 'quieten down a bit'. As a combination I think they will be less in your face.
Ant was great, he took plenty of time explaining the pros and cons and was 100% sure the colour and durability would be much better on the existing whiteline. The redline now is raised from the tyre wall as he scrubbed the blue coating and a thin layer of white off with the machine he uses. The other way, on the black side is slightly sunken on the wall, though only very slightly but can be a width of your choice. Colour bleed from the black is also a concern that he took time to explain.
Remains to be seen if I made the correct choice but they have lines, they are red and they are going on when I get back

Re: REDLINE TYRES
You could try and cover part of the red with a black permanent marker if you do think the red needs to be narrower
Joking aside, yes they are a bit wider than ideal but our redlines have lost a of bit of the brightness over time, so they wont be as in-your-face for ever!

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Yeah, that would be an option if they look daft. Would be easy to do with the wheels on and lifted off the ground to spin them. Im sure it wont come to that, fingers crossed. Wont make any decisions until they are on and I get a good look at them as they are meant to be

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Finally got the tyres on my painted 500s and as I suspected, I was a bit disappointed as the line was definately too thick. Looked too bling for my liking.
I must point out that this in no way reflects on Ant at Mr Whitewalls. He talked me through the pros and cons of what he could do and I just made the wrong choice. On hindsight, I would have put the line on the black side of the tyre, 3/8" and risked the black bleed through.
However....I think Ive sorted it.......

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Used a sharpie to draw the line whilst spinning the wheel and some really good black tyre paint. Not cheap but worth it. Im much happier with the look now. Will put a few more coats on then move on to the other wheels.

Really like that, let’s see an overall view.

Re: REDLINE TYRES
Thanks gents. Ive only done the one so far so will chip away at it and take some shots of the car when its all done. That tyre paint is very good (black). Ive used stuff in the old days on cars that looked good for a few days then cracked etc. This stuff is much better. Ive practiced on some old tyres and it seems to be very permanent and extremely flexible. I cant scratch it off and it doesnt crack when I press the side wall in

Re: REDLINE TYRES
I think you’re right the single stripe is just enough, subtle but definitely there. Its a great look with the Magnum wheels.
