the company i work for have a lot of stuff cad and zink plated , its not expensive , try some plating companys close to you first , if you get stuck i know i can get it done , the only down side is most platers have a minimum order (my anodiser has a minimum of ?35)

Trev, if you could let me know where the plating company you use is I'd be interested to know....working in Essex it might be convenient for me. If they did small parts (including nuts and bolts) I think I'd easily have enough stuff to go for the minimum order (door locks, hood latch etc).

(YES, I did buy the home zinc plating kit (so did Mo!) but I confess I have not got around to making my own plating tank yet   I've used the metal blacking kit to great effect, but the plating is more time consuming still, and I'm looking for ways to save time!!!)

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will look into both options. Have to say though, if shipping is reasonable, I will probably send it away cos they come back like new. Paul500 is right, when you pop the hood they stick out stick a sore thumb.

Russ,

the answer is yes, I can sort the motor out but the only thing I cannot fo at home is re-wind the field / armature windings. Apart from that, cleaning, brushes, commutator re-profile, lead replacement is no problem, but the end result has to be right and look right. I could end up expending a lot of time and effort for something 90% as good as the one in Paul 500's picture.

I am a sad git.

Try A1 Anodising 01342 323999, they're in EG. or www.universalappliedcoatings.co.uk ,they're at Pease Pottage and should know who can cad plate.

gavin , i did the zink plate thing a couple of years ago with great results , i still have all the stuff i bought and made including tank heater, power regulator , spare zink ingots , thermometer , tanks etc if your interested let me know , its all the bits you will need to do it properly . i was going to do it again but with the machining taking all my spare time i have no use for it.

That's mighty decent Trev, thanks for the offer. Like you my spare time is at a minimum so I'll see if I can get someone to do it first - if not I'll give you a shout, cheers
