Just a quick update to show how far ive got.

Ive got the wings fitted and aligned with the doors.

Most of the paint has been removed now , just the edges to do and remove all the old body filler.

There is filler in every panal (must have belonged to mr mcgoo at some stage  ) exept the passenger door , worst being the passenger front wing . But ive found NO more rot , which is good news.

Havent yet removed the rear glass , dont know wheather to take it out or not :dontknow: it has been out before not too long since , ther bond looks quite fresh and the clips for the trim are all good and the rear scuttle has been repaired.

Hopefully it'll be ready for painting very soon 8-[

This is the first time its seen daylight since i brought it home :hello1:

Thanks Lads :thumbright:

I will have some more updates as soon as I get back off my holidays I will be doing the final stages of the bodywork. It's been a long time since I stripped the paint (feb i think) and It's taken till now to get the car to where it is today ! I'm only writing this because Adam68 has pointed out that the work is overdue  sorry Adam I do owe an explaination I did say last year that the car would be at the Nats and people constantly ask when it will be finished and the simple thruth of the matter is I just dont know. Without making any feeble excuses im just so busy at work at the moment and i dont want to ask for help or they will get some one to help and i dont want that, i need to make hay while the sunshines. But all this extra work means more money and when the car is shown more will be done :thumbright:

When I first brought the car home from Dave Madders, I fully intended to; do the boot floor, throw it back together and have a blast with it, then do the rest as I went along. But seeing all that shiny new metal against the rusty floor pan just didnt look right so I thought I would strip and paint the floor whilst it's up on the stands and it just roller coastered from there and still is.

I dont want anybody to think that this is a concourse restoration because it is NOT ! But the external bodywork is the most important thing to get right, which includes the panal straightness and the panal gaps. And thats not easy as yoo all know

Thruth is I just want to take my time with it and soon :drwho: it will be ready for show and if it's before the season ends I will have a run to the sarf :D Adam I havent forgotten I owe you a pint mate, see you at the Nats :occasion5:

Ive got the day off work today to go and pick up my Capri and have to work this weekend to make up  I will have it with me at the Nats, and I will be getting some practice in on the strip  .

Kev will have to give me a 6 second start :D

Hi Folks , just a quick update. Well finally got through the bodywork. All the openings were painted today. I was going to Stars & Stripes but the wheather put me off so I got stuck in. I was away last week but since I came home I have been in the garage as much as possible. The Hood is fitted and Ive had to repaint the upper part of the inner wings and some of the bulkhead because of scratches and stuff refitting the wings and hood. Had trouble getting my head around that lot  ( painting and fitting everything without scratching) but anyway, it was antisipated to a degree. Its the only way to cover everything on both sides of the panals to my knowledge.

Dave ( Moparnutterz ) is going to paint the body for all those who didnt know and Dave It will be ready in a couple of weeks ( I hope ), if you would like to come and have a look, you are welcome any time. Before I bring it up to Chorley, I will get as much reassembly done as possible, I can refit the dash and get the wiring loom fitted and bring it on the key so we're not lugging a dead weight around :thumbright: .

Speak to you at the Preston cruise on Friday Dave :thumbright:

It's alive 8-)

I didnt go up to Preston tonight.. Sorry had some issues with the car.

Ive repainted the the dash panal in black , fitted every thing I could to it, and then forced it back on to the body.... Hooked everything up and Bang ! it snarled into life again, leaving debree of unsettled dust waking the dead and vibrating through the floor, and scaring any wildlife creature into the nearest hovel.

Then when I was trying to balance the tick over....... The right bank back spark plug lead decided to set on fire......... And try to set the car alight because it was touching the header.

So I had another fire to put out

I am a lert  ........... And Briton needs lerts  any way my goal ( at the Mo ) is to get it to a turn key car and get all the functions going again :thumbright:

When I had it running, all the settled dust lifted from the rafters and stuff was falling off the shelves. 8-)

GOD I LOVE MUSCLE CARS !!!

THIS IS GONNA BE A WICKED, WICKED, WICKED BITCH 8-).

Your Gonna see it soon 8-)

O.k ... didnt know weather to show this stage of the rebuild, because I remember Alex's last words to me when we'd loaded the car on to the trailor.. " there should be no filler in this car"......

Sorry bud.. couldnt avoid the old filler tin.. Especially around the rear quarters. my welding is was o.k but the panals I ordered were pure philf, seriously when i pulled them out the box they where almost flat  after paying around £250 for the pair i would have sent them back th the maker if only he wasnt in Japan or one of those southeastern poverty countries  . The right sight sidr panal looked like some 20 stone guy had been jumpung up and down on it in a rage then kicking it around his workshop  .

So ive endup having to fill the back quarters quite considerabily.. unfortunatley..

Here's how it went with the ditermination to get the perfect !

First of all I got the top half of the rear wing straight and smooth. Then over filled over the swage line... so I could find a cut off line, ran some masking tape to the disired profile and cut the filler with a 3" angle grinder. Then sanded the lower half away back the the lower rear quarter... This left me with an uneven cut, 'cause even my steady hand couldnt and wouldnt make it perfect !! So holding the sanding bar upsidedown went about filling the cut to smooth it out.

Then start to fill the lower part of the panal by feeding filler right in to the 90 degree angle. This is ofcourse bevelled so a half curcular motion is what you want . BUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO GET THE TOP HALF RIGHT FIRST OR IT WILL ALL GO T~TS UP ON YOU. So at this point I was looking around the garage to find a tool I could use to profile that curve... And the best thing I found was to cut the end off of an old broom handle... Just the right diameter to run along the swage line.... Perfection :D

Thanks Clive, had been debating with myself weather to post these filler picks and in the end thought what the hell, i'm building this for me not for anybody else, if people cant accept the fact that filler has been used it actually doesnt bother me. Your right about the use of it, to cover rot or bad repairs is a bad thing. But these cars are huge and nearly 40 years old, so there's a lot more cars out there with filler in than you would think ;) I'm actually very proud of the way ive got them straight and seeing the car in the flesh, I'm sure (when you see it) you will agree that it's not noticable :thumbright:
