If you need a calendar just look on my site for the link to the calendars page. Sounds like youre serious about the street driving set up....the original diff ratio in the car was a set of 2.71:1 gears. I imagine a lot of people on here will be only to glad to get rid of any gear sets like that so they shouldn't be too hard to come by ;) Maybe you should consider going back to full auto by changing the trans valve body and shifter too as its mainly a race set up in there at the moment.

Guy wrote:The only other thing that could cause vibration at the speeds you say is the gearbox itself I had this on my car for years and it was only when I put a new box in did the vibration disappear I went through changing gearbox mounts, prop, front and rear UJ's, halfshafts etc damm nearly tore my hair out looking for it, the box was even rebuilt once and the problem returned we think the tail shaft may have been slightly bent. Just a thought as it has lost a prop in the past you may have something bent aswell .
Hi Mate thanks for your advice, see lower links I will try checking the basics first ....don't really want to wonder into gearbox's...just yet.
Richard.

DrogoBroadband wrote:Hi Richard, good to meet you today. This vibration could be anything through the whole rotating parts list unless you can pin point what area it seems to come from. When the prop went the whole transmission was replaced as that went with it, so I would doubt it comes from there. If it is at certain rpm rather than road speed maybe the engine needs rebalancing. 80mph is about 4000rpm so try driving in 1st or 2nd gear for a bit at 4000rpm and see what happens.
Dave...(previous owner and standing start racer) ;)
Hi Dave like wise it was good to meet you at last (everywhere Ive been with this car people have told me about ur history about the car.)

Thanks for that advise about the vibration, after speaking with a couple of the other charger guys today,I was questioned as to the thirsty diff (petrol use) so I intend to put back in the original for this vehicle and at the same time that will give me good look at all the other moving parts.
Look forward to that calender photo, can you let me know when and where I can buy.
Thanks also to the rest of you guys for your advice on my vib prob. Its a lovely car and I just want it right.
Streets with no names...you should try CSP...some time...

Hi Dave you mentioned in your early mail that idea to have the engine balanced do you know someone local (to us)
Richard.

I had exactly the same problem on the road runner. Vibration from the rear at around 75mph. The propshaft uj's looked fine, no play at all, but I order new ones anyway and a new transmission mount as well. Fitted the uj's and the vibration disappeared completely. I still haven't fitted the new tranny mount.

The prop and UJ's on the Charger were all replaced in 2002/3 with brand new parts which were all balanced with the slip yoke form that trans so I doubt that is the problem. I would be more inclined to suspect the engine and possibly the crank damper/pulley

If it was the engine you would get the vibration in each gear at a given rpm you would also get it park and neutral . Normally if an engine was out of balance my much it would be very noticable (totally unbareable)

Headers....

Thanks guys for all your in-put, but I believe we have found the prob.
The headers-exhust were bolted up so tight they wouldnt allow any movement at all when moving up the mph.
Must admit It was the last thing I would have looked for. A wise old mechanic spotted it, appearently its becoming a common fault with all the changes being made to these mopars....you learn something new everyday.
Rich.

Easiest way to check that is to run round the block a few times on open headers ;)
