Wow! Did he buy it in vancouver? Chances are he bought it at the Plimley dealership where mine came from! My car came with all the paperwork right back to when it was bought. There's even a "business card" from the salesman, with a cheesy photo of him in the corner! On the back there's a crude map with the 2 Plimley Dodge dealer locations, the new car dept at 4th avenue and Vine st, and the used car dept at Broadway and Alder st. I've checked out both locations, but neither is a car dealership anymore.

It's also got the original owner's name and address on another bit of paperwork. It's just the other side of the city, so I drove round there to see if she's still there (or alive!) and if she remembered the car. Sadly no-one came to the door that day, but I might pop back soon. Hope I don't seem too weird though... "hi, you don't know me, but here's a car you bought 36 years ago!"

I'm fascinated by all this history, it's great to see what the car was up to & where it lived, 10 years before I was born!

Adam, great picture of Howe Sound, by the way. That's about 5 mins drive from where I took mine! ;)

Sadly my Uncle passed away a couple of years ago, but my Aunt is in the UK visiting right now, so I'll ask her. I have a picture somewhere of the 64 in the snow up on Grouse Mountain, and also one of my Aunt proudly behind the wheel of a 53 Belvedere, their first car, which they drove from the East coast to Vancouver when they first arrived in Canada around 1959.

8-) 8-) I'd love to see those pics if you have them handy? My girlfriend works up grouse mountain, she operates the cable-car!

Cheers.

Andy, we had a Thanksgiving dinner yesterday (yes I know Canadian Thanksgiving is actually today!), and I asked my Aunt where they bought their Mopars. Without any prompting she said "Plimleys on Broadway". Of course I told her about your Monaco.

I got the dates a bit wrong. She and my Uncle Ron emigrated in 1957 and spent 3 years in London Ontario with my great Aunt. Then they loaded up their 53 Belvedere in 1960 and headed west with all their belongings packed in and on the car, including a huge television set in the trunk! She said there was so much weight that they sunk up to the axles on a muddy stretch of road construction on the Trans Canada Highway, and had to be winched out!

When they finally made it to Vancouver, they knew immediately that they wanted to settle there, though they had a hard time making ends meet on my Aunt's wage as a typist for CKWX news radio station (which is still going) until my Uncle got a job as a fashion photographer.

Well that's probably more information than you need, so I'll stop there!

Still can't find the pictures of the cars though... :(

Adam, fantastic to hear your aunt's story! I'm thoroughly entertained! Must have been quite an adventure travelling with all your belongings like that in those days.

Wish her a happy thanksgiving from me!! (Sorry to hear about your uncle by the way, I meant to say last time.)

And thanks everyone for all your car comments. :)

Happy thanksgiving everyone!!
