Our Polara 'only' has lap belts, and its been passing MOTs since it came in the country in 2004.
A car only has to have seat belts fitted (from an MOT point of view) if it was made with them. So as ours were an option and added later in life, it should pass the MOT without them.
Not that an MOT tester would know whether the car was originally fitted with seat belts or not
Clivey wrote:I was going on the premise that one might have the full works Sir, on the whole cluster. That is quite expensive.
From memory, ours cost around $380 for almost the full works, but obviously it's different to a Charger cluster. Gauge faces didnt need repainting, just cleaning, but all gauges were tested, speedo rebuilt, plastic rechromed, needles painted & lenses polished.
Mind you, the $/£ rate was a bit better 18 months ago...

I believe lapbelts are compulsary after '65, or full belts if that's what it came with. Pete has kindly dug out some green '68 lapbelts so that should work a treat.

There's still a degree of patina Mr Cannonball, but I couldn't leave the rear quarters and rear end as it was (it would never be roadworthy). Watch this space as I rub back to find some of that patina. The boot is still original! I'm going to leave some iron filings on the vinyl roof to get rust stains too....

Right, it's down to the wire. Am heading over tonight to give it a first drive and check engine cools ok and gears work ok. The heater matrix leaked when it was hooked up so that's been bypassed until I can send it off for recon.

The master cylinder has refused to give me a pedal on the front brakes. We've run a honer down it and now it seems ok, but I do want to find a replacement non servo drum master cylinder ASAP. Anyone?

The arm on the back of the headlight switch for the vacuum has rusted and broken off, so the lights were working and now the doors aren't. Bugger. Can you buy separate parts for the headlamp switch or is it all one unit only? Need to source this soon.

Wiper arms were seized but we've managed to unseize them. Might need to find others.

Lapbelts worked a treat Pete - cheque in the post today.

Am using a fair few of the headlamp vacuum bits off your '69 Rich - cheers again!

The plan is to get an MoT tomorrow but then I have the dilemma of registering her before Wheels Day. The documents simply won't come back before Good Friday. Should I drive it anyway? She's insured on the VIN and will be MoT'd and taxed. Oh I dunno
:?

Good progress.
Not sure if you can tax it without being registered.

I drove my A12 to the Nats on American plates; it's a chance but your call - that's quite a long run on a car that has not been shaken down; make sure your roadside recovery is up to date.

Some recovery people will not touch it if its not taxed as they are only insured to carry road legal vehicles  So its worth checking with them before you attempt it :read2: .

Been there done that and NEVER doing it again. It's looking doubtful about Wheels Day. Oh bugger.

Shame if you don't make your deadline boss, I'm working on one aswell. Glad you got use out of the headlight bits.

Think about it like this: if the worst that happens is that you don't get the car on the road until after Wheels Day then your car is still working and on the road. There are other meets and don't forget that your Charger will be on the road! :thumbright:

Hope you get sorted.

When I first registered the Duster in the UK it was just before the Xmas hols.
I drove over to the Northampton DVLO and asked if they could get it done ASAP as the insurance cover note would run out by the new year. They said they would phone me if they could get it done the next day. I drove back to Coventry and about 3 hours later got a call to say everything was done and I could pick up my Tax disc and paper work. It was to late to drive back again that day so I went back the next day and picked up the paperwork :D

I would go to your local DVLO straight after your MOT and ask very nicely if they could help you get the car on the road ASAP. They only have to check your import paper work and the form you fill in, pick out a reg number off the computer and print out a tax disc and your legal.

Use your charm and smile a lot ;)

Good Luck

Registering at Peterborough DVLA is by appointment only now - you can't just turn up from memory.

NEWS FLASH
She passed the MoT yesterday and I drove straight to Peterborough DVLA office. Amazingly the queue was small and the fella was really helpful. I parked the Dodge right out the front and immediately an inspector asked for a look. I told them I needed the reg doing sharpish if poss for Friday and it's all gone through! Tax is on the screen, I made up a reg plate tonight, greased the joints and am ready to brave Wheels Day. My mate is following in his 54 Belair and because I'm running her in i'll be taking it easy. Am so happy. Just done about 30 miles today, so it total the Charger has done about 90 miles already. No fuel gauge tho, so I'm topping it up a lot.

SEE Y'ALL TMR. Most people have gone to bed but thought I'd spread the news. Another Mope hits the road again. 8-)
