850 dp demon gona be to big for your combo mark, good top end but gona be down on power at the bottom, remember you said when you had the holley 850dp on it was still the same if not worse, perhaps borrow a 750 off someone and try it first, could well be you have the spark breaking down above 3000rpm, did you try a diff power valve ? and plug gaps etc
keep it mopar !

Got new powervalve on the way. Just thinking a powervalve couldn't make it behave this badly, could it? There is so much fuel going into the motor, I'm thinking something more serious. I was pretty certain an 850 Demon was too big. Pulling my hair out, and getting to the point of giving up and buying a new carb (even though I can't afford it)...

My mate Nick in Trowbridge is going to let me take his new 750 off his motor, and let me try it on mine to see what happens. If it ain't that, I'm going to get a sledge hammer to the car...

A failed power valve will empty the contents of the front float bowl straight down the carb.....it might run a little rich.

Mark, i think Si (strokerblue) currently has 2-3 750 VS carbs if you are desperate to borrow one, am sure he wont mind.

Ok, so the main man Kiwi sorted the cam timing, and now it revs through to the red line... cool. 8-)
It still doesn't open the secondaries, so I've still got some work to do there. Having said that, it does pull surprisingly well considering it's only on two barrels at the moment.

MoT is due very soon, so some work was needed to sort the brakes (only adjustment), and the indicators (haven't worked since the last MoT). Couldn't fathom the problem with the indicators, until we bypassed the original switch completely. With the original switch, I might have got up to three indicators flashing, and sometimes the side lights at the front worked dimly. Since bypassing it, the side lights illuminate much brighter, and all four indicators work clearly. Front left was working dimly to begin with, but that turned out to a bad earth. Funnily enough, I couldn't get it to work any better unless I earthed the actual bulb holder. Where the bulb holder fits into the unit, it must be corroded, as earthing the unit didn't improve things. I'm going to be left with a rather ugly switch mounted on the dash board, but it works, and is a lot cheaper than buying a new original switch. I will have to buy one eventually, but I can't fork out $196+ $30 shipping, when I've got other things I need to be spending money on.

The journey back from the Nats threw up another problem. The alternator has packed up. Strokeybluething leant me another to try, but that's not charging either. Nothing else for it, but to order a new one...

One more thing I want to do is to ditch the centre consol, and fit a Mr Gasket ratchet shifter I've had for a little while now. Trying to shift the standard shifter manually is a headache. It won't slip into first unless the engine is cold. As soon as it warms up, it won't go down past second... :? I guess the linkage is getting hung up when it's hot.

I'm determined to make the HRD's, and make a few runs in it. Just comes down to money (that I haven't got) at the moment. Having said that, since Kiwi sorted the cam timing, I'm really enjoying driving it. Can't wait til I can get the secondaries opening... ;) :thumbright:

What a productive day. After fitting a new reproduction indicator switch from Dantes, took the old barge off for MoT today. It passed! Yee Haa! Another year of motoring, and I should make the Hot Rod Drags to do it's first runs. Shouldn't be too bad either, as I've now got the vacuum secondaries working too. With a few other bits sorted today, it's finally looking like the hard work over the last year is going to start paying off. So, what should I be hoping for? :-k
I think if it makes it down the strip without dumping it's guts, I should be grateful. But, a 15 would be ok ish, a 14 would be pretty good, but if it makes a 13 I'll be over the moon. See what happens...
