Hi folks.

Just a quick update on the progress with the Road Runner.

As some of you will know, I had a problem with the engine a couple of weeks ago. http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20769

I did find out what the cause was but I've been so busy I havent had the time to finish the thread.

I found that 2 of the damaged tappets (the most damaged) had seized on the pushrod side. One was stuck right in and the other had seized at the most outwardley position. This I think will have bent the pushrod.

It's not the end of the world and a few cheap and feasible option's have been offered.

The trouble is, I absolutley broke at the moment, having not worked much these last few month's, so the money isnt there to sort it out!

So the car has to be put on the back burner for now, with the heat turned off!

Sadly this means the car wont be at the nats this year, and I know some folk will be disapointed, but no more so than I.

On the upside, I've just come back from Castleford, Yorkshire Electric (YEDL)Training school, with a completely fresh trade test (thats a 3 yr m.o.t). Only got the call on Friday. Screamin' out for Jointers to scoop up a huge back log of fault's. Over 800 risin' at 20 per week. So it's like a fourth bridge type deal (start at one end and by the time your at the other side, there'll be some more.:D

They've offered a very handsome hourly rate, and all the overtime I can get my greedy little mits on. So I wont even have the time to sort the moter out, once I've got money comin' in.

I've got 2 day's @ Murphy's (Manchester) then a nice weekend with the family, then come Monday I'll be mostly in Yorkshire, depending on district and time of closer, sometimes stopping over to save on diesal.

So maybe it wouldnt be a good idea to say when the car will be ready... It may now not be until next year. Sorry folks!

I know I'm not the only bloke who's had it tough this year, I know a lot of good men are strugglin' I now consider myself to be very lucky. Fault work can not be effected by the resetion. Fault work has to be carried out and repaired, no matter what the state of the economy of the country is. So I'm feeling very secure financially now. And my heart goes out to those who are strugglin'.

I am gonna get time off to come to the Nats, but I'll be in an 'Italian deisel, and I wont be putting that up the strip, unless I need my gonads twistin' off by the missus. But I would be willing to bet It would beat the Capri times last year!

Got people to meet and pay for goods, bring back goods ( for pascal) and say hello :hello2:

And I'm very much looking forward to it. See you all there. :thumbright:

And thanks for all the help and support. :thumbright:

great news on the work front mate :thumbright:, and it must be reassuring to have found out what went wrong with the motor, always frustrating when you just don’t know what went wrong

Good and bad news then. But having good work is more important than anything.
I know how you are feeling. It is looking less and less likely I will make it to the Nats with the Challenger. It is a physical as well as financial struggle for me. But I am going to struggle on in case I can just swing it.

Hopefully your engine will not be too expensive to repair.

You can buy a tool that hammers through the lifter bores to make them round and the correct size for the lifters. I know Hughes Engines sell one but you might be able to get one elsewhere too.

When assembling an engine always lightly oil the lifters and make sure they spin freely in their bores. If you lift one to the top of the bore it should drop straight back down when you let go.
Never put assembly lube or grease on the sides of the lifters. Just the base.

Good luck with the job and the car.
