GM have discontinued EOS.

I used it. It was good stuff, as was their Top Engine Cleaner.

I have some EOS somewhere, supplied in error when I wanted TEC.

Remember, EOS was only really there for the first 500 miles or so, then the first breakin oil and the EOS got flushed. You were not supposed to run it in the engine permanently. GM were very specific about this.

Miller do a good classic car oil, but I am using Halfords 20/50.

The problem (I was told) is most modern oils are expecting the cars to have roller followers, not flat tappets.

All the best

From the description of the Hughes additive.

Hughes Engines Extreme Pressure Lubricant is a state of the art additive package that is compatible with standard (mineral based) oils or synthetics. To complement this highly specialized additive package a proven friction modifier, Micron Moly® is further blended into the oil treatment. Micron Moly® is a liquid soluble type of moly that plates to the metal surfaces of the engine. Once plated, the moly forms a long lasting lubricant film which prevents the metal surfaces from coming into contact with each other. By preventing metal to metal contact, damaging frictional wear is eliminated...

That sounds a LOT like Castrol Magnatec to me.

What was wrong with your last post Adam, I put in a long reply on that one which mentioned a number of relevant points............

The Hughes stuff is good, though he just repackages Schaeffer Oils stuff, cheaper elsewhere, e.g.
http://www.speedpartz.com/schaeffer_moly_treatment.htm
The MSDS is available here if you want to look further ..http://www.schaefferoil.com/msds.html

Like I said in my last post if it is Zinc (ZDDP) you want, don't assume you will get it just by buying a certain type of oil ('racing', 'offroad', 'Diesel') you have to check the actual oil you are buying.......

Also, as mentioned bobistheoilguy has more info than you will ever need.
And again, STP has a lot of ZDDP - but it is very thick

You are confused Gavin. There are two of these threads. You answered on the other one.

Blame Adam. ;)

Gavin is talking about the thread i posted a few months ago. ;)

Been using Lucas additive in all the V8s i've owned , now i've been on Bobtheoilguys site , having second thoughts , as he carried out a test on the additive , only to find out the oil gets airated , causing more problems.

Same as STP , which forms a "sludge" in the bottom of the oil pan , causing the pickup to get blocked.

The only oil to use is Valvoline , which has "all" the additives we need , ie: zinc , if you can't get Valvoline , then Kendalls will do.

Gavin , thanks for posting Bob the oil guy , great site. :thumbright:

Does BobTheOil know Magnatec? My Buddie, BallBag, swore by Lucas oil modifier(?) used to buy cheapo oil and add the Lucas stuff, was fantastic. Used to change it every run though, but that's Rover V8s running on Methanol for ya! (Quickest Rover in Europe at the time)

Since I were a wee apprentice he has been known to me as BallBag. Even me old Mum used to say " 'Phone, Kevin, It's BallBag" Peeps might know him on here as Johnny Mental of "The Happening" Fuel Slingshot. 8-)

Well Dave is right, I AM confused now!!! (but I don't think I am the only one :D ). Adam had a post going on oil (Diesel Mopes) started less than a week ago, to which I replied a few days back. When he started this thread he said "Sorry to start another thread , but my first one is now useless", so that is the only reason why I asked about it!!!! I might be missing something, it has been known to happen :geek: Now my brain hurts too.....

Not to worry, it doesn't really matter where we post it, it's all good

Anyway, it is certainly a topic with lots of opinions and little hard data, so it's always useful to share around peoples experience. Right now I don't know what I will end up using but one thing is for sure I will be doing a proper break-in with single valve springs etc and some kind of additive!
