It drives lovely. It is very fast. It looks good.

But it just a car if you know what I mean? The only thing it really has going for it is that there are not many around these parts. So at least it is a bit different.
Know where you coming from Daveman, but remember the old stuff we know and love still only started out as everyday production cars.
Once you had it a bit and modded a few bits and pieces it'll start to feel like yours.........................know what you mean about the brakes, my mate has a Z06 C5 and the stoppers on that are just astounding :D

It's silver and it goes Vroom! :D

The LS1 5.7 engine produces 350bhp which with the 4-speed auto trans gives getting on for 300hp at the rear wheels. From 2001 - up you also got a lot more torque than previous versions.
It moves well because it only weighs 3,245lbs. Top speed is 170mph.

A composite of published performance numbers for the base-model coupé and convertible gives a 0-60 mph time of around 4.7 seconds, and a standing quarter-mile time of around 13.2 seconds at 109 mph (both times for a vehicle equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission).

Mine does not have the driver adjustable suspension. But it does have "active handling", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_ ... e_Handling

and also variable-effort steering (the assist level of the power steering is varied according to vehicle speed).

Mine also has the "Heads Up Display" (HUD) option which gives you options to display speed, rpm, shift light, oil pressure, fuel, temp, or any combination thereof.

You are talking £14K - £18K for a decent base model like this. The Z06 is the one to really have but for a lot more money.

Yes, they really are a nice drive and have superb performance - great bang for the buck! My mate had a C5 and now has a C6 and I've driven both. Until recently I had a 2001 Z28 Camaro with the same LS1 lump, though I added a set of long tube headers, which turned it from very quick to very lethal - far too easy to lose control of the back end, though lots of fun :D

Before the headers it produced 299hp at the rear wheels (estimated 367 at the flywheel) and after having them fitted and tuned it produced 369 at the wheels with an estimated 450 at the flywheel. If you fancy a boost in power that is the way to go....though it was bloody loud after the headers went on, even with high flow cats.

Sounds like great fun, Dave. Comfortable, reliable, looks good and still more tuning available :thumbright:

Maybe we need a section for 'Old buggar's modern muscle' for those of us with sore backs and need for comfortable speed :D

Yeah but I might be a bit late. Depends what time I get me dinner.

Just put the front brake back together on one side. Having a cup of tea and then doing the other side. The rears can wait until the weekend. :thumbright:

The front discs are 13-inches diameter BTW. I just measured one because i didn't know. :read2:
