I would never Ro-Ro a decent car.

Don't forget the Car tax and VAT Rapage on top of the price of the car AND Shipping. It could add 28%+ to the cost of the car.........

Most Septics will NOT write the bill of sale down as it is an offence.....you may get lucky...

cheers pete i hear what you saying was on phone earlier to shipping company getting all ins and outs, if i can find a standard car no modifications and is no longer in production you only pay 5% tax not the 30%, its a bit of a grey area so im trying to find out exact criteria, shipping guy says some times they let things go and some times you get a jobs worth who is dealing with your papers, really cant believe how expensive cars are over there, its looking like would pay to go over and rty spot one locally, its not ideal so im sat on computer24/7 trying to find something, respect to the club though everyone giving good advice and being helpfull :) ....terry all i find is liitle piglet valients like yours haha

Ahhh, the old days of BTI.
Don't bet on it, That was a loophole they closed a while back.....least I thought so........

The car has to be ultra rare - to the point that a Superbird would not qualify.

You never know your luck, but plan and budget for worst case scenario..........I paid £2700 tax on a Hemi Engine (JUST the engine!!!) Well Bananarama! off........

My mate collected his car on Thursday, he only paid 5%, it was/is totaly original. He also used Kingstown for shipping within a Container, defintiely not RO/RO.

Another mate has imported 4 or 5 cars since Oct, also only paid 5%. Again these were all original untouched cars; 32's & Model A's. Also brought in a VW Camper, but that was taxed at normal rate, so was full of spares to help cover the costs

I used Kingstown. They were great! I gave them plenty to work on. Not only was I going the other way, the truck was full of other stuff, including custom paint. A lot of it. They were great, I did use a container. The cost was as quoted, and timings were spot on.

Now I have spent a lot of time in N. America over the years, a lot more than most, well not as long as Drew!

But they can be a little over enthusiastic regarding the cars they are selling. And they do not always know what they are talking about. So do not take their word as gospel. Check it all out before you part with cash. I have have lots of fun buying and selling over here over the years.

Yes, some states and provinces are wet, but that does not mean the cars are no good. MyFury came from a wet state, zero, and I mean zero rust on that. Even had some of the original factory chalk marks on it.

You can always come over forte shows, if you are determined to find one, I am sure you will.

First time I moved to the states, I had 3 days to find buy a house, including finding it. No Internet then! Then, when we bought our 1st house in Florida, we did not even see it till we paid for it! Eek! 2nd house in Florida, we had 2 weeks to find one..... Easy. Then we had 10 days to find our house here in Canada.

When you have an idea of what you want, and what you want to spend, it will be relatively simple. Don't sweat it!
I am keeping this Mopar....... SOLD!

I am still looking tentatively. But I want something a tad different. So far 1 thing has tempted me. Must admit to wanting something British. Or something really plain and common, not a
"oh look at me, look at how much money I have, I am soo great" sort of car. I will leave that to the "little willy" gun lovers of the world.
No, want a car that is boring to look at and holds a few surprises. But yes, I do want 2 doors ths time. Wish I had my droop snoot over here, with the offshore 350ci option.

jeff i like the way of your thinking, every where i look no matter what part of the states no matter what website etc etc, these yanks aint cheap no more, few years back you could pick up a nice solid charger for around £6-9,000
now youd pay alot more im really dissapointed that they used to be cheap and now there not, ive looked in europe to france, germany chek rep etc etc but its all strong money now, i see it as a bit of a challenge to head out to california and drive the whole west coast sandiego and head upwards, you never know what youd come across on the way, im open minded as what to buy as may see some thing that be great solid car and just over all fits the bill of a complete driver no bits missing etc, my instintict is just telling me to go and my level head says find some thing then go, but part of the trip would be that hunt !...............
does anyone know the exact spec or criteria the car would have to fit to get the 5% tax ????? :o

I think the general criteria is that its supposed to be rare and original but it depends how brave your agent is! All my old junk comes in at 5% and i've not been knocked back yet - touch wood as i've got 5 currently on their way! Do you want my agents number - call me if you do - 07889 054103, cheers Don
