I'm trawling the net to find out the difference between a 72 road runner and a 72 satellite.
I like the styling bu t I guess the. Roadrunner is prefable?
If it is the318 then it's going to be a bit "slow"?
A very. very basic breakdown:
72 RRunner = basic car that was built with speed in mind and few creature comforts.
72 Satty = Same car but with creature comforts and less race orientated parts.
72 GTX = Same car again but with all the bells and whistles
In all honesty to the un-trained if you removed the badges they would say that they are the same car!
Car values for similar condition cars:
Gtx, most expensive followed by the RR. Satty would be the cheapest unless rare spec!

Sorry Dave not After an agrument but do not agree for 72
What you say is correct for pre 72
But a Bit Diffrent to previous years is 1972.
The only GTX in 72 Was the RoadrunnerGTX if the Roadrunner had the 440 engine it was called the RoadrunnerGTX...no standalone GTX model
The 72 Roadrunner had the same interiour as the Satellite just had RR badges instead of the French flag looking Satellite badge.
All the same options on the Satellite and Roadrunner in 72 just that the Roadrunner owners tended to just stick with the Sporty options and the Satellite owners(normaly older) went for the Aircon options and extra comforts.
You are more than likely correct Tony, so no arguments!
I'm basing my knowledge admittidly on the 68-70 range where they are as i've said. Was trying to do a one shoe fits all. If you try to break it down to the exact differences across 67-73 and how they changed the lineup Stuarts likely to end up even more confused. Hence i didnt mention teh sebring or sport!
Stuart, spot on attend shows and chew the fat with the owners. They will be able to direct, expain and show you more that can be written! THE best way to attain model knowledge!
Have you ever been out in a Muscle car..............Get to the Nats in July and i'm sure there are more than a few people on here that will happily show you what its all about and how they make you feel!
I've been in Jim Smiths 70 BB Chally that is far from stock (low 12 sec car)! Apart from being a stunning example its trye shredding acceleration is intoxicating! This is the reason my stock 318 will be making way eventually. All because of that rolling foot to the floor experiance!
And talking of 318's dont be put off by them! They can be made to produce well over 300hp with work. If you do it properly and stroke it, over 400 screaming horses!

Hi Stuart,
Welcome to the club, I am a new member too and I recently sold my XK8 and a rough Cortina Lotus to finance my Dodge Challenger. Mine is a four speed but they must have made available some sort of modification for hand controls.
Check out this site may be of some use.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,
just out of interest, how do the Challenger and xk8 compare on performance/handling and 'useability" (within the confines of being used as a weekend car) despite 30 years development between them?

In all honesty you will not get a better car for this sort of money than this car
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C343708 as already said its the same as a Roadrunner shape wise and this one has a 400ci big block one of the best engines to stroke.

Rusty Richie (the guy who bought it from the ex-USAF owner in Jarrow) regrets selling this car and is trying to find the money to buy it back.

It does look nice. I can't believe after years of hankering after a Challenger I'm being swayed after only 24hours
Do you know the car?
How much do you think it'd cost (I won't quote you on it in the future!) to get it into nice "show car" condition as opposed to car show winner condition?

How much do you want to spend and how far do you want to go with it? Its really like asking "How long is a piece of string?" And what the car needs doing to it, but the money this car is to buy you could have it looking in good shape for the price of a bog standard Chally or Cuda that needs work.
Do you want to go for the show room look or are you looking to go in the tunned direction, or both?

as I typed I knew thats what the answer would be. it did strike me aswell that looking at the adds, i could have this to a very nice standard or an average Challenger for a similar amount of money.
I've only just talked SWMBO into the Chally idea!
At the moment I have to be honest and say Im more interested in looks than tuning.

Remember though many parts can be sorced from members on the club or they know where you can obtain parts. Duncan (Cannonball) has an aladdins cave of parts. And there are members who have all the workshop facilities you might need too. As well as the answers to any questions. There is always help when you need it.

I knew the car about 12 years (?) ago. That is a long time.
It would need careful inspection.

Go with the car that puts a smile on your face when you drive it, I spent along time searching for the right car, found it and found it to be a big disappointment, then on a whim I called Matt up went to see the Gtx....which I now own

not what I thought I wanted, but it puts the biggest smile on my face
