Been lurking for a while, but decided to join on account of my purchase :
Just parted with some cash for a 73 Plymouth Barracuda 340 4bbl.
I don’t have it yet – it’s being prepped for shipping in Des Moines, Iowa.
Should have it in 6-10 weeks according to the shipping co.

I’m more than a little nervous to be honest.. I’ve never owned an American car, never bought a car from over seas, and never bought un-seen… so there is plenty of potential for it to go horribly wrong !
Hugely excited though !

I do have one (for now) question …
I’m having some difficulties with insurance.. I’ve not made a huge effort so far, but the companies I’ve contacted to date have declined cover because I don’t (or rather will not) have a “regular” car.
I do so few miles in my current stead – A 2004 Monaro – That I’ve decided to get rid of it as I don’t really need a daily driver of my own. Mrs SOM’s motor is perfectly adequate.
So the hopefuly quick question is – is this something anyone has come across before ? and can anyone recommend a decent insurer for “Sunday use” of these fine machines ?

Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to the club/forum etc etc :)

Dunno why you've posted in this thread :? but to answer your question, quite a lot of us on here use RH Insurance http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/
They seem to be flavour of the month.... and have been for a couple of years.
I cant see there being any reason to refuse you insurance if you don't have another car to use on a daily basis.
I've been insuring our 2 Mopars for yonks and don't recall being asked that

Mind you, as it's never been a concern (as I do have a daily or two to use) I may have glossed over that question :?

Certainly worth asking RH about it tho...

EDIT - Sorry Andy, I just re-read the title of this thread. It's not a general Newbie thread, just one created by a member who has just rejoined

don't worry about driving the thing...takes about 10 mintes and you'll be fine.

if you can't get insurance get a joint policy on the wifes....

i had "classic" on my only car for years. used it as a semi-daily i.e not for work/commute but everything else.

site unseen well always a worry but as long s the body is made of metal everything else is just nuts and bolts. not all easy fixed but damn sight easier than a restoration and plenty of bits here already. theyre all the same underneath.

Hey Mike, all I know is he killed the motor, i suspect this was because he handn't got a clue with the rev pattern shifter and drove up to Hollyhead in 2nd ( 4.11 gears )  so he got Mr Billdon't to do a quicky rebuild,
which is another story :banghead: ........I thick he did move it on in the end,
where to I have no idea :?
