Hope the damage isn't too bad Guy, maybe just as well it didn't happen on the strip as the end result may have been much worse

Bolt from the tunnel ram went down the intake and into the cylinder where the piston then used it as a sex toy to bugger the heads chamber.

Well I had been looking forward to getting back on the track for what seemed like ages. We did our normal thing and turned up nice and early on friday and got set up. I reset the timing on the car upping it slightly as I was trying out some Power Pour and set the timing to 37 deg the motor really seemed to like that, Idle was reset and we were good to go on Saturday morning.
Saturday morning was quite cold compared to the friday, the car was run up to temp on the axle stands and checked for leaks all was was ok so I worked it through the gears whilst someone watch the tyre clearance on the wheel arches I bought the rpm up to 6500 and all was good but I would recheck for any witness marks on slick and body work after the first run.
Nice long burnout on the tyres just to get them nice and hot, into stage green were off 11.61 that was a PB so happy with that, the taller slicks had had the desired effect and pulled the rpm down to an indicated 5700 perfect for when the nitrous get put on for Gary's Picnic. I only did another 3 passes on Saturday 11.63, 11.64 and 11.54 (PB) that was enough for the day the car was put on stands and covered up for the evening.
Sunday morning uncovered the car and went to start my warm up routine but now the car would not start despite several attempts,Hood off the car smelt very fuelly toss I thought flooded it and when I pulled #1 plug it confirmed that. so I refitted the plug and left it for ten minutes. I thought I would back off the timing slightly from yesterday as I thought that may also be holding it back so loosened the dizzy slightly and returned it to the premarked point on the block 34deg, This time when I tried there as a big back fire excess fuel I thought and pressed the button again, the motor fired but wasn't running on eight I wasnt that concerned as I thought I might still have a fouled plug. The engine ran for about 30-40 seconds before water shot out of the passenger side exhaust like a fire hose and some out of the drivers side pipe. I cut the power instantly. I sat there trying to work out why I would have water out of both pipes when there is no join between the two although there was considerably more on the passenger side.I knew it was game over . After a while spent gathering my thoughts I decided to take off the intake and this is when I found water in the inlet ports of #5, 7, 4,6 & 8 how the hell was I getting water in there, there is no water around this area?? I then noticed a bent push rod on the inlet of #8 so I started to take off the head as I removed the header I found pieces of cast metal in the tube and also in the exhaust port. Right time to take of the head, bolts out head lifted clear and put on the floor oh that piston (#8) has taken a right beating but is still in one piece loads of cast bits and the remains of a bolt (wtf) this is when I turned over the head  A slight lack of compression there, but where the hell has that bolt come from the only place I could think of was the inside of the tunnel ram, but they were loctited in place I took the rear carb off and checked for for both bolts and there it was.... missing

I will pull out the motor next weekend and slowly strip it apart and check everything to see what is salvageable and what isnt.

Me well I am totally gutted and also overwhelmed by the numbers of offers I have had, ranging from help pulling it apart to pistons, Rods gaskets, valves,Heads and even a complete motor. I really dont know how to thank you enough.

I took my little 302 down the track ran a pb 14.97 and managed to get to the semis in the gamblers but the car bogged of the line and he drove away from me, despite me cutting a better light.
Good day enjoyed it, shame about Guy's car but on the upside Mary made us a nice cup of tea.

Awful news Guy.
I guess they were nicely ported heads too??

I still do not understand why you have water in the Odd side?
Do you anticipate damage there too or do you think that the water from #8 was flowing across the inlet manifold (sounds feasible as they are the rearmost ones).

When I had similar happen it took the side of the bore out too
Got it sleeved and no worries.....

Sadly I have not got any Wedge bits that would help you out unless you want to change to a 400 block, but that will entail lots of additional expenditure.

As I said, gutted for you - if I can help out any way please let me know.....
