Sounds you may not be getting a trigger signal from the sensor. I have seen one open circuit before. :thumbright:

Got the bugger to run eventually. Took out dizzy, checked reluctor gap was ok and it was. Checked rotar which looked burnt. Cleaned dizzy contact and pulled the contact up higher on the rotar and she started.
When for a 30 minute spin and came back, car wouldn't restart.
Dizzy was too far advanced and dragging starter down.
Tomorrow I'll order a new rotar and dizzy cap, RR set the timing and then try again.
Slowly, slowly catchee monkey and all that.

Ah mate I'm gutted she is playing up still, hope you get to the bottom of it soon enough

She was an ass for me to restart a week before you picked her up, like I mentioned, but was then fine on the 2 drives after !!!!

The whole transaction has been cursed I think as the double glazing windows, that I bought with the RR money, all but a few cracked on installation !!!!!!!!!!!! so I'm currently waiting for replacements :-(

Ok, Sussed it. Ignition switch is screwed. I realised last week whilst hot wiring he starter solenoid that the car would start every time if I shorted out the solenoid, but almost never started on the switch and then backfired after the switch returned to R1 position.
New thread on replacing ignition barrel.
