Wow, and the Hemi isn't holding back either! Decent tyres on the 340 but I'm guessing same on the Hemi. Great video, the sound is fantastic!

Hey Steve , just following on from Pete's comments , I was always told by Jim Wilson that the best Mopar combination was a small block in an E body as the balance was just right , I never had a 340 car I did have a 318 71 Challenger and although it was never going to a quick car , it was a fun car.
Saying that for regular driving it was great driving around the Norfolk roads and a joy on longer journey's where other than a few blasts it was poised and handled pretty well and the disc brakes were fine .
It took a little setting up with carb , manifold , headers shocks and all the usual up grades but other than that it was a good handling car that took the weight of the engine well .
I drove a 440 in a cuda once , and it was very nose heavy and didn't like roundabouts at any speed !
Just my humble opinion but a 340 in any E body has it all !
Yours
GUY

No complaints with mine. The 1970 340 came standard with R/T spec too, so not much roll in the corners.
No idea why they didn't call the 340 an R/T, as the 1970 340 Barracuda with the same performance pack was called a Cuda.

Very interesting Guy. Think we forget that a 340 is actually still quite a large displacement engine in the grand scheme of things. I remember seeing Jim's plum crazy Hemicuda at Shakey years ago. First Hemi I had ever seen. It was a thing of beauty!
Thanks for all the info gents, interesting way to fill the long (windy) evenings

The tester in one of the chapters I read said the 340 was consistently quicker in the 1/4 mile than the Hemi despite Mopar factory mechanics being on hand to tune etc.
Here's a base model 340 keeping up with a 426 Hemi.
I'm surprised by this. Not really worth the extra Dosh for the Hemi is it. Especially these days!

Stock Hemi cars really aren’t that impressive, only in racing form do they live up to the reputation. A 340 A body would match it and a 440 six pack would take it.
