So I think it's me to blame. My apologies to anyone who lost input on that thread, it was not my intention. I should probably learn not to speak my mind.

Not something i've experienced but i agree with that.
If you don't have the balls to say it in public, don't say it.
If i got a PM i was bothered by, i'd post it up on the thread for all to see :thumbright:

Blimey. I was working on the old house over the weekend and missed all the fun!

I bet that's the last time Jon asks me for modding advice!

Anyway Adam, the moral of the story is, if you build an engine to rev to eight grand, don't get your supposed "race car trained" mate to finish off putting your motor together.

In short the motor was running fine, I was on the M40 "running it in" when I noticed I had the entire road to myself, not a car in sight, gave it a little squirt through the gears when the timing chain let go.

The result was Bananarama! pistons at about 7,500 rpm and everything going a bit quiet. One of the valves actually parted company with the valve stem and punched its way right through the piston...I have that somewhere in the shed as a momento of how expensive this hobby of ours can be...
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

Well, it was difficult to tell Dave and I was so mad I didn't want to dwell on a post mortem, but the chain was completely buggered, we think he used the old one, but it was chewed up and in bits, so not easy to tell...especially when you have thrown it across the workshop... it ripped the sprocket and snapped the front end of the cam clean off.

Maybe the piston hit a valve & ripped the chain/cam gear off.
