Correct Martin.

Listen son, like some have already said, the guy has that car firmly wedged up him, when you came along he must have thought it was Christmas as you where/are willing to part as well  :banghead: .............
YOU should be asking him for a clap ( sorry, a grand ) your way as YOU have the car that will sell quickly ( yawn :sleepy2: yawn, sad but true  ) and also remember that the day will eventually come when YOU want/need to sell and YOU will have the same problem ( ie wedged up ya ) sp please think about and remember this factor.

Mind you, having said all that, I have done some stoopid things when I was young n me heart ruled me head n listened to no one n just had to have it, no matter what............... not always about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ eh ;)

PS........If he does throw you a bag-of-sand, don't forget me drink ;)

I'm well and truly sat on the fence now. Really do appreciate all the honest advice and it's awesome to have such differing views; half for & half against. Seems the lads with the Charger say go for it, the lads without say haggle or keep the stang and the mustang guys i know say swap.

If i don't go for this i'll likely put the 'stang up for private sale and go for something modern/sensible but i'm glad you guys have brought me down to earth a bit, the lure of shiny shiny paint, big motor and RHD had me drooling :)

Atleast now when i go to view i've got all the facts to make a more reasoned decision. :thumbright:

This is the car I looked at for a couple of members a few years back. It needed a fair bit of welding, but had all new interior plus many other new bits with it. Was on ebay and made in the region of £1K. Should of had it myself but I wasn't in the mood for a years welding work before sorting out brakes, wiring and the rest. It was a non running 318 car then.

What areas needed welding Steve, if you tell Ian he can check it's been done properly when he goes to see it?

Don't get me wrong Ian, I'd rather have the Valiant but at the right price. The 452 does it for me but if anything, I would think non originality will make the car worth less when coming to sell?

It does appear to be overpriced maybe?

Welding work, from memory was rear spring hanger/chassis rails, rear panel and valence, inner wings near scuttle/A post junction/floor pans in front corners, both sills at base of B posts leading into rear arches.Areas under front and rear screens. That was the obvious stuff,no doubt more would have been revealed once work progressed.

I am one of those who wouldn't want an Aussie Charger at any price.
It has to be said this one looks nice, but it is a very niche market for them.

The Mustang looks great, If I were you I would keep it until you have enough money to get a Dodge Charger if that is what you want.

I quite like the little Demon that was on ebay recently, no bids at £13k.

on the other hand as i said on the PM

1) where do you find another charger? where do you find another mustang?
2) you'll always be able to find a mustang. from enginless 6 pot at 6k to full blown special models at 100K+

we are not short of mustangs

the extra £££ in the charger is because of the pound spent to make drive train big block US spec

without it i'd hope it to be a 10 K charger in reality its a 7 or 8 k charger
a bit like trigger andys but nothing like the other 7K off to Oz untouched barn find metallic bronze one

cos the hard work has been done (body trim)

what you need to think about to help make up your mind is

what do i have if i part the car out

if i take out that engine and box will i get 4k for it?
or 3k or 2k depending on how the deal goes

if the answer is yes

you can have you charger with big engine

and if you get tired of the big engine it can go

i know a place with a couple of 318s and 904s and you'd be looking at -200-400 to get a sat-in-yard unknown quantity engine and trans....

there are people on here who would/could assist in making something nice out of that kind of thing

i can think of 3 london and surrounding areas chaps who could help and are reasonably priced.

budgie above sells cars and obviously knows what sells easy and what doesn't he can probably sell anything but most of us can't

are you buying it to sell or are you buying it to enjoy for what it is as these circumstances need to be considered.

other options for 12k

you could buy a wagon one on here for 4K
you might get a very nice dart probably a 70s one
you might get a project 69-70 B body but it would be a project

when it comes to working Mopars that can be driven for the next 5 years with minimal difficulty and the equivelent of 12K you will be limited to good aussies and A bodies 2 door

any 4 door

C body like a fury

and project B bodies
you'd be hard pushed to find an E body that ran and was MOTed

you have an easy way into a mopar here but keep in mind they are limited in their appeal to the traditional Mopar owner

they are not necessarily limited in their appeal to guys like you and I who didn't really consider themselves as a Mopar man first and formost

i.e geezers who just liked the car for what it was

The way things are at the moment there have been some nice E bodies going for around the 12k mark and doesn't Andy Robinson have a very nice 383 68 Satellite/Roadrunner for sale for £15k or have I got that wrong?

yes but andy rob like budge would only allow circa 5k for this guys mustang in a deal, so of a trader the guy is giving this lad a fair price,
the best result all round would be to sell the mustang for say 12k then buy the charger for say 10-11k ...................... Bananarama! me thats roughly the deal the guys are offering him........... get it bought mate. ;)

Welcome Taskmaster!

Seems you have a bit of a dilemma.
My 20 cents says, sell the Stang privately then wave less cash than advertised price for the Charger.

I love the Chargers and am probably in a minority in this club that I don't really go out of my way for the Yank Mopars, but that is just because I am from the land of the rusty Aussie Val and grew up with them as our family cars.

Anyway, welcome to the club and I hope you get your Charger!

Twas the one i linked too Jim, its in the ebay section:

http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38462

Not the best write up for a car, but looks like a good quality car with what some consider to be the best small block engine ever made!

Also i'm sure Jim (Challenger on here), sold a very nice looking charger 68-70 (cant remember which one) for less than £15k within the last year.

So proper Chargers ;) (waits for Aussie boys uprising) can be had for around you budget. Just don't ask which is the best year (thats a whole other topic)!
