I take your point Dave and funny you should mention it but we did have a small fire in the kitchen, about the same time as we had someone try to screwdriver their way into the wife's car. The broker i use recommended, claiming for the car but not the kitchen, so we took his advice.
Deano's fire doesn't appear that bad other than the bonnet.
The point i'm trying to make, is that you can spoil a good thing if you dont keep your greed in check.

Mick......Understand where your coming from mate! :thumbright:

Dunc, sure you can twist Insurance and get a few more ££ out of them, but they where ever possible try to give you nothing.
I only ever see insurance posts on how they offer £1500 for a car that's worth £5k......Don't think I've ever seen one where the guy wrote of his 10yr old fiesta and got a brand new mustang in value back!

As to the Insurance hike due to the facts that Chargers seem to go up in smoke.......Who can tell? It would have to get to a point where total payouts out strip total premiums across the year!

There are always alternatives in the insurance industry hence wildy varying premiums....so pays your money etc.......The truth to if the premium is worth it will be how they handle you when the worst happens (god forbid for anyone)!

Hope Deano gets his car fixed, RH get a glowing report as an Ins company and they keep the premiums as low as I have paid this year.......Everyone's happy! :D :thumbright:

John at JPC did some insurance work on my '69 Camaro a couple of months ago and did a fantastic job and more than quoted for.

I can see why he is highly recommended.

Insurance Update

Post by deano »

Following the fire on 24th August, I finally got the authorisation to proceed last week.

The assessor (from Banwells) viewed the car on the 2nd September, I sent him a breakdown of parts required, a labour estimate and a painting quote on 16th September. From then on, apart from RH requesting a copy of the MOT certificate, nothing. I eventually chased for an update by email but got no reply, then phoned a couple of days later and was told Banwells should receive authorisation from them the next day. I then liaised with the assessor as to how the claim would proceed (re-spraying of hood and engine bay is being done by a local paint shop, all other works I am doing myself).

So it appears that RH will pay - but don't expect things to happen quickly!

Sounds like you are doing all the "Project Management" - I would expect the insurer to do that.

Mind you, as a PM, I would probably want to organise it myself so it got done, and done the way I wanted. However, I recoognise not everyone has the time / skills / inclination....

Glad it is getting resolved...
