Alex. So Richard Petty confirmed that Petty Blue is Ford Grabber Blue (or whatever it's called). That goes against previous wisdom that tells it was a mix of what blues he had that got mixed together in a bucket, and Petty Blue was the result.
What bothers me is that Petty was using that blue well early in his career. Surely it must pre-date the Ford colour? Perhaps the Ford colour was near enough for him to change to it in later years rather than keep trying to match his earlier concoction?

Jim I thought that cars with special order paint all had the 999 paint code instead of the usual code on the body data plate & broadcast sheet & that special order interiors are indicated by the numbers 888?

I think the colour on the race cars and the colour on the road cars was a tad different? The Ford and Chrysler colours are the same though.

Jim wrote:That's funny Dave. There's a few colours missing from your 1971 card.
Like FJ6 Sassy Grass Green and GY3 Curious Yellow to name but two of my favourites.
That is just one card of three I have for that year Jim.
Look here.

It changed to Ford Grabber Blue when he drove the Talledega.
Any Petty coloured car after 1969 should be Ford Grabber Blue.
Also, all Petty Blue MoPars came fitted with Top Loaders, not New Processes.

Always difficult to assess colours and colour charts on PC monitors, plus degradation of charts and paint in the first place.
Tony, get some more shots up, love the 'arty' shots! The original Eblog ones dont seem to do it justice compared to your latest pics!

Thank you Kevin

i have always been a big big fan of steel wheels painted body color...but those wheels do look like they would look good on the car

similar look to the Black ones that was on the real thing
The colors on the charts always look darker to me than what they are,the computer monitor wont help matters
