Didn't think you could weld carbs, arn't they made of mazak or pot metal? a very low grade alloy.

What's JB like with petrol? Diesel takes it out in about 3 weeks :(

The damage is above the "fuel line" so should only see air.

I did wonder if it was some sort of alloy. It does seem harder than ally.

Would it braze?

Don't think it would braze either, the alloy is basically "muck" and would melt at a lower temperature than braze. I think some form of Epoxy would be the only way to repair it.

Remember my post on melting an old carb to make a new gear? mazak-zinc alloy of some sort. It can be soldered but at a very low temp, virtually melts with a match.

like blue said some form of epoxy.ive used devcon in the past, even formed engine fins on an air cooled bike.worked a treat can be filed/drilled etc and is coloured to look like metal.

It has been JB weld (ed) and it is great stuff doesnt seem to have been affected as its above the fuel area, its just such a bad repair.
But im stuck betwen the devil and the sea, do i break it off and cause more damage possibly or leave it , as i said its not broken off completely the metal is goo and uncraked in some areas. :?

,virtually melts with a match.
So does that mean the carbs are harder than mazac as they didn't melt in the fire?
