If that car was up n running and re painted, in say in its old race paint, i'd give 15+ for a 70-71 Cuda with a 440 / Hemi all day long...probably more, vins or not

Im no dealer, or car wheeler dealer but i know what i like, and a street legal Cuda with the right motor will sell.....and they aint getting cheaper thats for sure

Blue wrote:It's Cracklin' Rose all right, of that I have absolutely no doubt. But I don't believe it's on the right number plate, even if stamped numbers match, I'm convinced it's wrong. If you've looked at all the old photo's and read that magazine article, I don't know how you could think anything else. Anyway If I had the time and money I'd love to buy it and put it back to something like it was, to me it's a piece of drag racing history. But I'd have to try and trace Dave Rose to ask him if could remember what the registration no was....

Blue, I am 100% percent behind your thoughts.

I don't doubt this could be the Cracklin Rose(rose paintwork) having now personally been round to see the car & inspect it.

.......... again, I also don't think its on the right Number Plate.

I have no idea at present, how, when or by whom this switch was done by.
I also don't understand how this has not arisen earlier. The previous owner (James Lee) bought/ registered this vehicle in 1990. This was approx 6 months after my car had passed its MOT, insured & taxed for the year. I just don't understand how this was not picked up as, car registrations were fully computerized at this time.

I'm sure one of the 2 of us will end up losing the registration number through neither of our faults. If the DVLA are involved, I assume I will come off the worse as my car now appears the most non original. I have paper evidence, documentation, etc but this will probably not be enough to satisfy the DVLA.

I haven't given up on proving AEG 261 J belongs to my car & neither will I give up without a good dispute. All being well & ideal I hope this is a DVLA screw up & they issue one of us a new age related plate.

Maybe if I had kept my car like the 2nd time I did it up, then I wouldn't be having this argument/debate as to if my car is what I say it is........

Been digging through some of my old photos looking for history on the Cuda, anyway thought you may like to see couple of photos I found of AEG261J. Bit more enthusiastic in those days, that was my 2nd paint job I personally did, was well chuffed at the time

Yours very disillusioned.......Mark

Just checking whether the "quote" function works as it doesn't seem to work for a lot of peeps in this thread, very confusing...

Dunc

Yes

Why not

If that Cuda was back on the street and around the conditon of mine ie - a good 20 footer - definately

I know of a 71 Cuda 340 in France Circa 30K and a bit tatty. and another (much nicer and a 440) on its way at 36k

so if it looks and runs right - 20k is no prob

I agree - If you buying to invest or make profit -NO
but if its the car you want and you want your money back at the end or lose a bit - YES

Thats the 383 motor that came with the car when I bought it, infact that block is what the engine number relates to on both Log books.
Motor was rebuilt +0.030", TRW pistons,Reground Crank, Resized rods, 509"cam. As usual built by me, ran pretty good on the street.

I painted the car black with red hockey stripe, but didnt like it. So repainted the whole car again, less than a month later. Colour was Ford Vista orange
