Red lead & satin black rattle cans might be the way to go, then a decent spray job in a couple of years when I have more cash

if you mix boiled linseed oil 50/50 with white spirt and brush or spray it on it dries like a laquer seals rust and last for ages and cost's a lot less than Gibbs!

Got some Gibbs yesterday - smells like isopropyl alcohol as the propellant and transmission fluid???? Wasn't this covered in another post, just using acetone to mix with the transmission fluid to make a brilliant penetrating fluid??? I'm sure that not everything in the can, or is it? Merry Xmas!

Went out shooting Friday with my vintage Trulock and Harriss side by side.
The fella I went with loves his early guns so we had a bit of a black powder day ( big booms and flames )
I also ran a few nitro cartridges through the old girl so put Gibbs to the test on cleaning.
Boiling water through the barrels ( a must for black powder !) then a good clean using Gibbs.
Really impressed how well it cleaned. Barrels looked shiney but after a squirt and a run through with kitchen roll even more residue came out.
Cleaned the whole gun lovely.
My only concern is if Gibbs is a nitro solvent like other gun oils such as Youngs 303 ?
I'll dig it out in a week or so to see how it goes.

Thought it was time for an update...

I'm only taking it out once every couple of weeks, and when it's dry out.
It's just getting a small amount of salt spray behind the wheels and on the rear panel. If I don't clean & re-apply these bits do go orange by the next day. Other than that the whole car has tiny dots which will start to go if I leave them too long.
I went over the whole car at the weekend with scotchbrite, tissues and Gibbs. Probably no more effort or time that it would take to polish a painted car and it's now back to shiny rust-free bare steel.
And I'm still only on my 2nd can.

Why dont you clearcoat it Paul until you have to paint job sorted

Used some in the garage the other week to clean the GRP hood i've got...............Use in a well ventilated area. Thought i was gonna pass out!

I don't want to seal in what little rust there is and I can't be ar-bothered painting the thing just now
Priority is to get it running right and sort out the prop/ wheel vibe.
