Good man. You see ? This is why you are in charge round here. Sound decisions...
In other news; spacer removed. Base is already drop. Filter is 3.5" tall - and needs 3" to clear carb - so 1/2" to be had with a thinner filter.
Its on the line... we'll see.

Minor update - Thought yesterday could have been the day but alas, it all took longer than I hoped (as these things tend to).
My mistake - I left the 'trimmings' off the gearbox (forgot to fit before dropping in) and of course it would have been 100 times easier - doh !
All on now. Another example where headers make everything such a joy...
Made up trans pipes yesterday. So today if I fit the trans pipes, sort the fuel piping, add fluids and prime its *possible* we see if she runs.
Thats the plan...

RUNS ! RUNS ! RUNS !
Woohoo !!!!
No obvious leaks. Usual smoke billowing from mucky headers where the handprints burn on...
Will try set timing this afternoon and get a few heat cycles through her. But YAY !!!
Learned tons about dizzys and shafts too. It all makes perfect sense now I have mentally joined the dots.
I let Blue down though I really tried to find if I was TDC or 180 out. But nothing would tell me ! The rods/rockers dont move at all when you wind the engine over. Peering down to the valve-guides didnt help. I was forced to go for the 'set it 10 deg before, align it all to plug 1 and give it a go. 50:50 chance'.
I was unlucky. There was a bang and bad smell. Popped dizzy, rotated 180, dropped back into slot and 'VROOM' - straight away. So my timing was ALMOST perfect. Or at least 100% wrong
Anyway. more pics soon. but SHE LIVES !

Dammit. Problem. Potentially biggy
Engine fine, brakes fine. Trans fine.
Steering - not fine. Not fine at all. Going to start a new thread but in summary -
Old steering (which worked perfectly) leaked. While engine out had it rebuilt. Reinstalled. Seemed OK with no engine.
Now, once engine running it turns itself left - I mean I couldnt even get out of the garage. And turning right - Oh boy - it just doesnt. Like concrete - but concrete that fights back and tries to undo what you just did. So it'll turn but you have to *force* it.
Desperately hoping this can be rectified;centred;tweaked without taking it all out again.
