My very last restoration!!!

This is a problem once over into the dark side !
Once I’m reasonably comfortable again I’ll pull the heads and have a look inside,
So far everything looks pretty much perfect,
The valve train etc, lifter gallery and cam all looks spot on,
If there’s nothing obvious wrong with the bores and the valves look good in the head , no cracks or burning
I’ll probably take a chance and do it myself,
New oil pump , new timing chain etc,
And fingers crossed!

I may try and do a compression check before I start this
But unsure whether I can get the starter motor on with the engine in my home made frame ???

I’m going to pull the heads off over Christmas and have a look, once there off I’ll mount it on my stand and have a gander at the bottom deck etc

My tool kit looks a tad depleted these days
But in essence I’m only short of a quality torque bar,
And it may make a nice change from body work !

Actually managed to get back on the TA
Got 3/4’s of the inner roof shell cleaned
Ran out of steam so will Bananarama! next week and get it into epoxy,
Horrible job with my shoulder/ arm problems,
But at least I’m getting some work done!

i'm not looking forward to that job on my nash, the inside of the skin is all a fine surface rust. reminds me of when i was young and my uncle convinced my cousin and me to scrape and wire brush the inside of his steel fishing boat. he got it cheap as it had sunk and sat underwater for months. to say it was rusty is an understatement. we were coughing up orangey crap for ages after that job.

Yes agree. Nasty job, but as with anything if one had the correct tools such as a rotisserie then even this job is relatively easy to do ,
I’ve done over half of the underside of the car but still have the rear sections to do and that’s like the same thing, flaky surface corrosion and in all the awkward places!

Hopefully I can finish off the roof next week and get it in epoxy, then I can forget about it!

And Nash is a marque that we hear little about?
Didn’t it morph into AMC??
In fact a 69/70’ AMX 390 4 speed has always been up there with the TA on my most wanted list !

yes it did, in fact my rambler is technically an amc. amc needed a small econo car so as they'd bought/absorbed nash they just made the rambler from iirc 56/7 onwards as a rambler american. it's smallish with the same wheelbase as a mk3/4/5 cortina/taunus so with a ford fe big block it should be quite lively.
re the rotisserie, that reminds me i bought a weld it yourself one for a mk2 cortina that i never used. i can make it up and alter the mounts to suit the nash shell to make jobs easier like the roof and underside. mmm.....

thats perfect, i considered buying one but in all honesty i just dont have enough room in my single garage, so have to do this stuff the hard way,
but fortunately the shell is pretty sound and im well over half way down now with the metal cleaning , if my body behaves i should be all in epoxy by years end.
I fully intend to Raptor the whole of the floor area, ive found this works very well with epoxy sealer and gives a bomb proof coating to vulnerable areas,
once again tricky without spinning the shell but needs must etc,
But i really pleased ive been able to get back to work on the car,

Managed to get the inner roof done
And it’s now sealed with Epoxy

Glad that’s done and I can move onto getting the metal work done on the rear of the shell

Not quite!
But generally very good considering it’s nearly 55!
I don’t normally take much notice of its age till something happens or something is said then bang i suddenly remember just how old it is !
I guess I’d be in second year at school when she rolled off the production line,
I’d have been 13 years old,
Good grief what I’m doing to the car now will guarantee it’s future for the next 25 years at least, she’ll still be here long after we’ve gone

I can’t help wondering if we are truly the last of the breed ??
I hope not, I had a young lass delivering a package this morning and she was blown away by the car,
Guess she was around 20 and a proper car nut !
Genuinely interested and loves old muscle cars,
So maybe there’s hope !!

While I’ve been letting my damaged arm repair
I’ve been doing some of the smaller lighter’s parts
Of which I’ve tons !
But my boxes of refurbished stuff is getting coming along nicely!
Fortunately I can do this stuff at work and just morph it into my day to day routine,
Which is very helpful as some jobs like the grills are hugely time consuming, with 5 different paint operations
