Couldn’t give a Bananarama!! :D

Next question, just checked a photo of how it was before all this and can see that they were screwed in from the other side, the threads just stuck out o to the engine bay! Surely that’s not right?

That is correct.

It is designed to rip the Bananarama! out of your hand when you are cleaning the engine bay....

Oh good, at least I’ve done that right then.

Cheers Pete. ;)

There is a thin foam gasket if I remember rightly which is more anti rattle than anything else. Thin smear of silicone on that bigger ring and install.

Magic, cheers Blue. Think I’m going to gently take it all apart and clean it up first, I’ve decided now.

What do you think on the wiper connections, should there be seals or gaskets of some sort where they bolt up to the body?

Not that familiar with E bodies but doesn’t the linkage sit in the heater plenum rather than inside the car like A &B bodies? If that’s the case then no need for any seals.

3rd Gen Charger the wipers in the heater plenum. If you want foam gaskets take a trip to the likes of Hobby Craft and buy some sheets of Funky Foam to cut whatever gasket you want, comes in several colours as well :D

Cheers both

Yes, they sit beneath the cowl vents, but the wiper posts are exposed, so wasn’t sure. There is some mystery foam on one of the posts, not on the other.

I remember doing the wiper seals on our Barracuda years ago and it was a right Bananarama! of a job, much easier on this!

If got foam hanging about, so might cut a bit, but to honest it was water I was worried about, not vibration, so might not bother. The cavity has (laughable) drainage anyway.

Water goes into the plenum anyway so no issue. Worth clearing out the drains if you haven’t already, they easily block.

Yes, all done. 8-) :thumbright:

Best get on with refurbing the wiper motor, then!

Going to replace the ballast resistor from the wiper motor, anyone able to tell me exactly what I’m looking for?

Nothing in the service manuals that I can see, but I was hoping I could just razz down to a local motor factor or GSF or somewhere similar and get a like for like. :-k

Bit of work done around actual work.

Held up waiting for my intake manifold and Rocker covers / filter lid to come back from the blasters, so did some bit and piece jobs over the last few days. Painted the K, pulled the rear bumper and fitted the new one, adjusted the boot lid and fitted new across the rear end to replace the battered old stuff, did some test fitting etc, then decided I needed to get on with cleaning up the grot from the ancillaries that are being replaced under the hood. Started with the wiper motor, as it looked shocking against the new paint. Took a good while stripping all the snot, sealant and around 16 layers of brushed on paint, but once I had it stripped back and sanded it was ok. Checked out the innards and no issues, so found some old black spray in the bottom of a toolbox and quickly regretted that… on reflection, no idea how old it was, as it sprayed a weird brown and went on very thin and took an eternity to not really dry.

Re prep before work this morning as I couldn’t live with the crap finish, so grabbed a tin of smoothrite spray from the local motor factors and it came up pretty well.

Just need to sort a new ballast resistor, replace the old brittle wiring and clean the nuts up and it can go back on.

Small things and all that… :D

The donk is in the hole, as they say in Oz. :thumbright:

Manifold, rocker covers and hat came up really well, I’m very pleased.

In the meantime, I’ve just been stripping and painting bits that look crap.

Gave the bonnet latch and surrounding assembly a sonic bath whilst I was stripping other bits and jayzus, the water looked like Stig of the Dump had been having a bath in it, but it worked a treat. 8-) bit of disassembly and painting later and we’re all good.

I just need to decide where to stop on painting stuff if I’m ever going to get it back together.
