Do you not fill in the seams between the tacks?

Not being a sheet metal expert I don't really know what the donw things is, but I always fill the gaps with weld (gradually to prevent warpage) before snading all back to make smooth finish.

Just use lots of tack welds if you are going to use loads of filler.

If you can concentrate on getting a better fit and shape to the patch so you need less (or no) filler then you can seam weld it and grind the metal to shape with only the need for a tiny thin layer of filler.

The better the fit of the patch - the better the result and the less work it needs.

That is why you make the patch just slightly smaller and, as always when welding bodywork, cool it with a wet rag after EVER spot weld.

originally there used to be a seam (special rust trap) there. ran from edge of boot hole down to the edge of the spolier

granted it looks better without but just in case you wanted the standard look its probably worth while putting it back before you paint it :)

i would take a photo to show ya but mine is off having its rear 1/4s and Valence re-sprayed

thing is you make it all look so easy

maybe i should have done it meself

I filled all those seams on mine because I didn't like them.

yes indeed

slowly fills with just enough dust to trap an itsy bitsy drip of water every time it rains.

and then your 1/4 panels come a drift.

odd that these were left in place when they very carefully lead loaded the two seams that go into the back of mock vents where the roof welded on

and the two seams at the top of the a pillars again where the roof welded on

you would think the blokey on tallow flux and solder duty would have been eager to have a crack at those bits.

mind if you have ever taken the trim off the rain gutters its not surprising

think someone cut my roof panel pressing with a knife and fork

or maybe their first childs milk teeth lashed to a stick
