Nice work Paul. Needs some muck on it though.

And. I can't believe someone else has an old 9v Makita going strong.

I think by the time you've finished with it, there won't be anything usable left  just a pile of dust in the driveway....

So Mossy's mate Tony needs a quarterlight and once I fit my new doors I'll have a spare. This has given me the little nudge I need to get on with it!
I'd already welded and painted the pass door so I bolted that on yesterday, it was fairly straight forward :)
The bottom of the old door has seen better days....

I hacked all the filler out of the new driver door and found it a bit worse than I'd thought but still repairable.

Tonight I made my patches with the help of some trusty Crunchy Nut boxes, hacked out the rusty bottom and tacked most of the pieces in place

It's coming along pretty good, the shape has survived well. I even remembered to cover the glass for once :thumbright:

Steady on Paul !!!!
That work is far too high quality for a truck !
You'll be getting the lead out next if your not careful mate !

Great work :thumbright:

I'll post some pics up of Tonys truck once he's done.
Very ......err.......mad max !

The hardest bit I find is retaining the original shape. Especially important on a door where it has to fit in the frame!
Tempting as it is to run a sheet of steel the length of the door in one piece, I do it a bit at a time, leaving as much of the original in place as long as poss. Tack one piece in, then cut the next bit off, tack that and so on.
Then you gotta be patient as it's SO easy to heat distort big pieces like this. You have to just do spots along the seam, then let the heat soak away. I've about 10 linear feet of welding to do on this door alone!
I'll hopefully finish the welding tonight and then throw some paint at it :thumbright:

Job done :D

Drivers door needs adjusting up a tad but otherwise it's all done. All the mechanisms are greased and running freely, I even threw some waxoyl in there!

..and the next job begins.
I popped the windshield out on Monday
It's scratched to buggery and going cloudy, also I knew I needed to do some welding in the channel.
One of the first welding jobs I did, about 15 years ago, was to patch right across the leading edge of the roof. I did this with the screen in which the main reason it's wrecked!
