motor on the drive. Had to skateboard the short block across the garden, fit heads and inlet on drive ready for the install. No fancy workshops and engine stands here

Gotta luv a skateboard! The number of engines and stuff I've had on 'em. Made moving fridges and washers easy over here, just make sure it's not an old school board worth heaps on the 'bay!! ;) And look at mr fancy pants with a solid flex plate!!! :D Looking forward to hearing how it runs. Reckon you'll have to start a new "getting the dart beater into the 12s" thread :thumbright:

Just for reference, best time with my 318 normally aspirated was 13.42 on a fresh engine build. After 14s with the smoker. Bet you are gagging to get out there!! 8-)

And you should have welded the engine mounts up while you had the chance, didn't notice any difference in the vibration after doing it to mine and helps heaps with the reaction of the car. Poor man's motorplate 8-)
(chamfer the edges then 2 lengths of 1/8th plate either side, but watch the rubber fumes, free high!!! 8-) )

thanks Mike, and ta for the tuning assist too.
Its been an eventful day on the inaugral drive out. Kev, that flex plate came back to haunt me (see thread in General).
Managed to get a few miles under my belt which included a stuck open throtle at 80mph which was interesting  . I'd rerouted the throttle cable to account for the height of the new manifold, but something wasn't right as it stuck just after i'd aced a Golf GTI who wanted to tangle
Anyway, cam seems to be fine but I do need to adjust the carb and the motor seems to want more idle.
Kev. 13.4 on a 318! I'd be happy with that!

Well, a couple of weeks on the road and a bit more to report. Car has been running good but did have a new hesitation at low revs. Figured this was down to the new cam, lower vacuum etc. Anyway, MMA chap Striker was flogging a 750Holley v/s for fair money so i promptly bought it.
Fitted today and straight out of the box the stumble has gone, it ticks over nicely and I can flor it without problems. Lots of fiddling with the linkage which still needs more, but its safe and usable now.
Should be even better when i tune it!
Meanwhile my 3.55 gears and locker are arriving shortly and things should fall into place :thumbright:

Surprised at that, Miles! 750 seems a lot of carb, to my basic understanding. :?

Still, it's how it works that provides the proof, so it's obviously all good! :thumbright:

When's the maiden shakedown going to be? Want to see it. 8-)

Stu, most people recommend a 600v/s but every time I takea look at some of the yank build up's, even on modest motors like mine, they have a 750.
Honestly, its a bit early to know but when i punched it there was no hesitation and it just took off! The current gears (3.23) will go for a set of 3.55s which wil suit the convertor better. There is a plan, but as ever it will require test n'tune.
Hoping to make it to Shakey for end of May bash and inaugral attack on the 13's :?
