Tony, his name was Raoul Julia. Dead now, from heart attack couple of years back.
For the record, when my fan broke and chewed its way through my rad on the A3 on the way to Guildford cruise last summer, the speedo was reading about 3:15 and there was more to go.
Mate of mine who has a 70 Charger 500 (383cui) got 150mph out of his old girl on the way to Le Mans last year.
Is that possible from one of them??? I had 135 (with some spare) out of mine but I cant help thinking with 3.55's that cant be quite right

I have found most of them read 10% fast. Some cars I have checked (non mopar) have been 15% fast.
I know mine is right. The GV overdrive uses a non-mopar speedo drive wheel that is a much bigger diameter and has finer 'steps' between sizes. Between me and GV we selected one that makes the speedo read spot on. Then I double checked using measured tire circumference as a starting point to work out mathamatically what the rpm and mph should be at 50, 60, 70 and 80mph. They all worked out fine so I assume speeds over that are OK too although tire growth will tend to make the speedo read lower than actual speed at very high speeds.
I didn't check over 80mph because once over that speed I stop making accurate rpm measurements.
Too busy to take my eyes off the road!

Oh BTW with the 4.30 gears and the overdrive on the shift light comes on a second before hitting 145mph which means I am doing just over 6500rpm. If I pushed it to 7000rpm I should be doing over 150mph but jeez 6500rpm at 145mph is enough for me thanks. No wonder my crank is complaining.

couple of years ago i had my needle on the p of the mph bit,it got scarey about the 110/120 mark then smoothed out and drove really nice. This was on the A3 going to guildford, coming back i passed the petrol garage clocking 145 mph (there was a mopar in there getting petrol). This was with the 383 motor and 323 gears.there was a mitsubishi evo trying to keep up with me but he lost his nerve

6500 RPM

7000 RPM

I bet that crank is like a skipping rope at them speeds (on a stocker at least). I bet thats enough to make your ears bleed with 4.30 gearing Dave
