gaskets and seals ordered now. once they arrive i can assemble my mix n match tranny and get it bolted to the fe engine. all that needs doing then is some 'spacers to take up the gap between flexplate and convertor.

though not as heavy as most this fe engine is still too heavy to drag across the floor. so to get it out of the way of this pop ute so that rover can be lifted out today we knocked up a dolly from 4x2, 2x1 and some butch 4" castors. the engine sits in the 'box' on it's sump rail so can't move about and it'll probably fit most other v8's i'm likely to need it for in the future.

we have time to get the 'box back together now as we're waiting 'til the engine for the pop ute arrives the weekend after next. :thumbright:

and there it is finally. the convertor goes all the way in 'til it bottoms in the pump and it still clears inside the bellhousing, woohoo!

i forgot to say the new headlights arrived yesterday. i don't need them yet but at ?15 with bulbs i'm not likely to get them that cheap again so..... they're just normal halogen 'conversion' ones, i don't like the new led ones. although very efficient they are butt ugly so do not belong on any of my cars, lol.

today some measuring and calculating took place. i know the convertor 'nose' is smaller on the 4r70w than the fe, in fact all ford's are 1.375" while just the fe is 1.850". so i knew a spacer ring needed to be made up on the lathe, no problem. what i didn't know until now was what if any spacers would be needed between the flexplate and convertor. it measures at 5mm only so the studs on the convertor are long enough for that no problem. that's with the convertor 'pulled' 3mm out of the pump so it's not bottomed out. so, only 4x5mm spacers/washers and a spacer ring for the nose and it can all bolt together for the last time.

I have to agree, I have seen alot of classic cars that are ruined by putting these LED headlights on them. They look like they have been blinded with a blunt stick.

i just ordered some serrated face flange nuts for the converter studs. they're close to the originals but with the addition of a serrated face on the flange making them lock nuts too.

further to me deciding on a 3" stainless steel exhaust, my biggest moan about exhausts in general is if you ever have to remove them it's a pain getting the slip joints apart. because of that i'll be using v band clamps instead. they can be silly expensive but i've found an ebay seller (in the uk) who has them for £11.39 with a multi buy discount meaning under a tenner each if i buy 4 (or more). that'll do for me.

i've just bid on a new sanden a/c compressor for the nash on ebay. the guy has several for sale and it's been relisted unsold a few times so hopefully the bid of £95 plus a tenner post should get me one. i'll only need the hoses and fittings which i'll probably get from car builder solutions to complete the heat and a/c system with all new parts. it should total under £300 all in which is cushty, lol.

the a/c compressor is on it's way, i got it for the start bid of £95 plus £9.19 postage. bargain :thumbright:

ps..... it's pulley is for 2 v belts not the modern multi v type so easier to sort with my old school engine.
