Isn’t it, just! Even with the extra stuff over the preplanned list, it’s moved forward very, very fast.

It’s made me realise how long it had taken me to get to where I was and that I was likely to miss this season as well, had I carried on ploughing through on my own.

Rear number plate mounting looked wrong to me withe the plate obscuring the number plate light. Turns out this bracket is only used on the 73-74 cars with impact bumpers, 70-72 cars don’t have it. The use of a license plate frame with only upper mounting bolts needed an adaptor plate making.

Did you not like the adapter plate I made out of the old number plate? It looks similar!

Great work as usual and the attention to detail

Massive props to Blue and Pete, Challenger is now back home. Few niggles to sort out, but having got it so far by myself, it’s now a very different car since the Pros got hold of it. Can’t thank them enough for their help and catapulting this forwards.

Few issues with a Heath Robinson carb, made out of three I’d bought for a song, turned out to be an error on my part. Stumbling and fuelling issues prevented Nostalgia Nats being its debut in NSS, however it drove back best part of 4 hours without any major issues and put a massive smile on my face to be back in the game.

Put it away for a couple of weeks due to work pressures, but popped the hood today to do some work on it and it has really made my soul happy to see how it looks under there now.

Anyway, on return, the aforementioned carb finally shat itself all over the newly coated manifold, so enough Bananarama! about, new one ordered. Thanks as ever to Chris Goodale, today’s job is to replace it with this little beauty.

I think it’s pretty obvious where the final leak came from!

Couple of minor issues to sort, had a bit of a game swapping some of the fittings and managed to shear the throttle cable ball. Thankfully, a quick trip to Jim at Jim’s Autos this morning as he had a spare he was good enough to let me have. Had to re drill the cable / spring bracket as the base plate had different size fittings, but no great dramas.

Not had chance to fire up yet, as when I came to refit the passenger side, I realised the bracket holding the regulator and pressure gauge fouled the secondary accelerator pump arm, so removed it and reshaped it, thinking that was that.

Unfortunately, on replacement, I realised that clearing the upright didn’t stop it fouling, so a quick rethink is in order.

Once I’ve rerouted that and waited for the air filter stud adapter that I didn’t even think of, can get round to setting it up.

The only other thing that bothers me is that the fuel pipe is now pretty much leaning on the manifold, so will try and pull that clear when I redo the plumbing.

Pictures are a bit Bananarama! and probably don’t show it very well, it all fitted beautifully with the old carb, just unforeseen that it would be swapped out so quickly.

Longer stud and a spacer should fix that.

Yes, it will need both studs on the passenger side swapping and 2 different height spacers, as the base plate is stepped, so that’s next on the list this week.

That purple clashes frightfully with the orange.


Seriously though, great job to all. Must be a great feeling to have a 'new car'.

Yes, it’s a bit blingier than my usual taste, but it’s what they come in!

Can’t wait to get some track miles on it now!
