I still think the sealer is the way to go, then while those heads are running, Dave needs to sell his body on the streets of Newcastle to make the money for the Stealths...simples!

Been there done that. I ended up out of pocket by £30.

Not me John. I nearly fell out of my bedroom window yesterday evening. That was far from sensible, as was the thing I was doing at the time.

I had to dive out of a bedroom window once. The less said about that the better I think.

Just found out I have been running this engine for years with 60thou quench distance in the heads when it was supposed to be 40thou. 20 thou too much.

Basically quench is not effective at that distance and my compression ratio a lot less than it should be.

Plus since I fitted a thicker composite gasket I have been running 19 thou more than that! So my 12.25 runs at the Nats recently were done with 79 thou quench distance. 39 too much.

So I will be putting that right next week.

Can anyone tell me how much needs to come off the intake if you remove 39 thou from the heads?? I have forgotten how you work that out.

That question was doing my head in, as I knew I should know, but couldn't remember, so had to check out my old Direct Connection Engine Book.

Info as written in the Head Milling Spec's section . . .

For 73.5 cc chamber heads remove 0.0062" from head surface per 1cc of chamber volume.

For 79,81 & 83 cc chamber heads, remove 0.0042" from head surface per 1cc of chamber volume.

For each 0.010" removed from the head, 0.0123" must be removed from the intake face of the head

On the basis you want to remove 0.039" from the head face, thats 0.049" off the inlet, well as good as 0.049" give or take a few tenths.
