hey ppl,

i am goind to drop a heavier axle in the back of my a-body.
someone offered me a 8 1/4" from another a-body, is that ok or should i go and find a 8 3/4"??? (as i will be using a 383 engine)

and what else do i have to change, the driveshaft?
and the wheel pattern and suregrip??

thanks

The 81/4" will take the power and apart from the prop will bolt straight in, it will be large stud pattern. Building an Abody 83/4" will get expensive these days as parts are getting scarce in the UK, it's unlikely you'll find one from an A body over here and if you do it will have small stud pattern. The usual trick is to find a wider case to shorten (I have one if you want to go that route), buy Moser shafts in the correct length with big stud pattern, source rear brakes of your choice and look out for a complete diff in your choice of ratio with a sure grip, probably cost between £800 and a grand by the time it's bolted to the car.

Hi Maccuda,

Decisions, decisions.
An 8-3/4 is the way to go for any bigblock car. And yes as Blue has said, to put an axle together with new parts is gonna be best part of a grand.
I managed to track down enough parts to build an axle for a guy in Wales, but finding enough parts to do another will be hard.
If I do I will let you know Maccuda. So the 8-1/4 will have to do!

Best of luck Baccarudaman.
