What the hey, just aswel give the background on this!
The Charger has been starting well, until Thursday before last. Went out to start it and was cranking & cranking, seemingly with no sign of ignition. The battery was puny anyhow, so tried jump starting, exactly the same result. Eventually the starter motor smoked and caught fire! Hmm
Next day went out to try again, same problem again, though motor sounding laboured.
Mid day came back with new (much higher capacity) battery, same thing. Coincidently post arrived with new rotor arm, which I duly fitted, hey hey, it started first crank-despite me thinking engine would be badly flooded.
Since then it has been okay, new 9mm leads, high power coil and plugs have been fitted.
Last Thursday took it to work for waxoyling, went to start it to get it off the ramp and got the same result as previous Thurs! Much cranking and nothing, eventualy high power jumper pack got it going. The engine was warm.
Last night it disgraced itself (again when warm) at the local meet, badly.
Eventually started by jump starting motor from TD Discovery and powering ignition from another car! Much wiggling of wires and testing for spark (which was good). Pulled No.4 plug lead off and held against inner fender, and hey hey, it started instantly. Again I would have expected bad flooding.
Im concluding its a knackered starter motor drawing lots of amps when hot (very close to headers) and depriving ignition of good enough spark. Problem persisted even after by passing ignition switch and connecting possitive coil terminal to possitive battery terminal.
Any ideas?

PS will get new motor anyway as setting light to old one probably wasnt a good idea!!
