Hi
i have a 1972 d100 stepside, and have problems with the handling,
ive replaced all the ball joints and bushes etc, had the camber and caster ajusted tracking ect, but it still seems to wander all over the road,
its really hard work to drive the only thing left is the steering box does any body know where i can get a good exchange unit ive tried everywhere
with no luck, any advice would be much appreciated .

Power or Manual?
Stupid question : are the Steering Box bolts tight to the K frame???? Common fault, that.

ime wondering if the camber was set up right,
it was done by a local american car specialist,
but i dont have much faith in them.

Hi Mate if its like steering on ice then thats about right for a D100 but seriously try backing off the adjustment on the steering box to make it a bit firmer or change it to manual and build your muscles up

I went through the same process with mine, it was like driving a Land Rover
1st prob was the steering box. Tried to tighted up the slack and stupidly bust the adjuster inside

Found a recon steering box for £65, tons better!
This uncovered a crack in the chassis behind the steering box. Welded that up and welded in a cross-brace between the chassis legs to stop the chassis twisting.
What state are your rear springs in? Mine were pretty knackered and allowed the rear to move side to side. In the process of replacing 'em now, should be fab then

that describes it pretty well, it had a manual
box when i brought it and managed to locate a power
steering set up , i was hoping this was going to improve the handling probs, itsjust so hard to keep it in a straight line, thanks for the
response

thanks for the info, i have noticed the chassis moving when shaking the steering, also my rear springs have def seen better days, i brought a truck for spares and the rear springs do look a lot better i might change them.

Pretty well describes the handling characteristics of my 70 D100, I have now got quite good at predicting upcoming corners. I just have to take the play out of the steering before the corner comes up, then it steers fine through it.
All adds to the fun/pleasure!!! of driving an old truck
