convertible top material / colour.. opinions

When i finally get around to restoring the Fury instead of just gathering parts for it, I will be putting on a new convertible top (with new glass rear window) I want to order the new top over the next few days.

I have decided against the cheapest material (pinpoint vinyl) and am leaning towards the 'double texture' pinpoint vinyl. This is available in white which is what colour the top is at the moment on the car.

There is a more upmarket material (about £125 more) which is a sort of dyed canvass stuff with butyl layer underneath, called Hartz stayfast. But this is not available in white.

I am planning to do the body in metallic blue (like B5 blue for instance)

The stayfast top is available in blue. But would blue look ok on metallic blue car I wonder? or clash? I guess I could get black, or go for the cheaper white top

ideas? suggestions? interior is metallic blue too by the way.

Nice but a NIGHTMARE to keep clean + your in danger of looking like a mid 80's essex XR3i.....WHAT E V E R!!!! The best material to use is the mohair stuff isn't it? I'd be going for a dark blue or black myself.............

Thinking about it,what with the interior colour, the car would prob look best in a dark blue witha bit of spangle added.Topped off with a black top.

I would go with the vinyl. Get a good quality one (e.g. Kee) and properly installed it will last years. My top lasted 10 years after I installed it and it is still GREAT, I'm changing it to get a different colour but it doesn't need it. I would avoid having one made up uniquely, I'd get an off the shelf for which they had the proper patterns.
I think the rubber layer underneath that canvas stuff may deteriorate prematurely too?

Definitely white or a contrasting colour. The blue will not match but it won't be that different either. Break up the blue!

ok i've picked a supplier (there were at least three different places I could have bought this top from !) and ordered today. I've gone for a nice white top because I saw a pic of a chevy or someting in metallic blue with the white top and it looked gorgeous.

Ive got a top coming complete with glass back window and various pads and things that help with installing it for £280 all in inc shipping to UK . I don't think thats too bad !

man i can't wait to get this car restored.
