On my 68 charger the side lights go out when the head lights are switched on, on a 69 or 70 charger the side lights stay on when the head lights are switched on.
How do i make my side lights stay on, I know i can run a wire from the head lights to the side lights but will this send a live back to the side light switch and if so will it do any harm to the switch

You could always put a relay between the sidelight switch and the bulb that would stop any damage (if any) occuring.

The lights should stay on when the headlights are switched on even in 1968 I would have thought?
No you can't harm the switch by wiring the side lights to the headlights but really that is not solving what sounds like a wiring cock-up to me. The actual side and headlight switch might be faulty or wired wrong.

You should check out the ones on the Shelby, as it's post '83 they have to be used as side-indicators, but also as side lights - so when indicating with the lights on the indicating flashing works backwards. The hazzards also work side to side instead of on-off
Anyway, yeah, I'd have thought there's something not right in the wiring already!

The front marker lights go out when you switch to dip, the side and rears stay on, this is correct on '68's and some later cars as well, nothing to worry about !

Break into the feed from the side markers

join the wire from the front light to the sidemarker wire and make the front marker supply wire redundent..

So they are supposed to do that? I guess that makes sense the more you think about it.

Yeah, my '68 does exactly the same, the side lights go out when the headlamps come on (dip & mainbeam). This is standard.
How come you want to change it though?
Must admit, from a safety point of view, I wouldnt mind making my front fender marker lights work with the indicators (the same as the side lights) is this possible? 8)
