nightmare

last weekend i went to pick my car up
had been at a mechanics garage for 2 years, he would fix the front & rear fenders for me and get new wheel arches in.
I was sooo exited, when that was done all was needed is to get the car resprayed and drop the new engine in and i would be ready for the summer.
BUT
not quite...
I arrived there saturday afternoon and the garage was already open, the yellow monster waiting for me.
right... what i saw there wasnt very promising, the car was sticking out of the garage with its nose, or should i say no nose, the complete front had been removes and there were no fenders on it either.
When i walked to the side i say the mechanic, still welding!!!
He told be he would be done in an hour!
I dont think i have ever felt so bad seeing my car like that.
I know that when i drove the car there there was some rust etc but now i was left with a skeleton.
I told him to stick that welder up his ar** and toed the cuda on my trailer and got it out of there. and then he had the guts saying that i might owe him some money.
It is in worse condition now then it was thanks to that cowboy and i have to review if its worth keeping it /restoring it properly.

so far my nightmare..

next week a real expert will look at it so hopefully i know by then if its not been too butchered.

well ofcourse you will find more bits when you start work on it, i did expect that but hey you do expect a proper mechanic to also tell you what he is finding and 2years is quite a long time to do some welding..:violent3:
I will dig some pics out but it is not a pretty sight.

I am wondering why you left it there for two years just to do a couple of months work?

Did you not wonder why it was taking so long?

weeeelll, it was a friend of a friend who did a bit here and there so was slow but also cheap that way. Alot of promises every time i rang him and its not close to home so very hard for me to check on.
Lesson learned

Ah. That is often a good way to loose a friend. Let alone a friend of a friend.

yeah now no more friends..

anyway the expert was quite shocked and quoted me 6 grand to repair all the damage. (and thats without the new parts)
Hard for me to say if that is worth it..

well apparently part of the welding on the rear quarters is so bad that its under tension and could break the glass at any time so they will have to come off. the front is not bad (new fenders &inners) but i'm no mechanic/welder.
I guess the good thing is when you strip & repair it that you know what has been done and then it should be fine for a couple of years.
The bad thing is how much is it going to cost in total, on top of the labor is the parts and then the paintjob. Could i buy a "new" car for that?

hard decision so hands in my hair at the moment
