The Halfords socket sets are actually quite good quality for the price.
You could do with 1/2 inch as well as 3/8 inch drive stuff. Plus a breaker bar. Two or three torque wrenches to cover ranges from at least 150ft/lbs to 50 inch/lbs.
If it is anything like the one I had you will also need;
At least one heavy hammer. A big chisle.
An oxy/acetaline welding kit to heat or burn off all the rusted and completely sized nuts and bolts. Mig welder to replace half the metal in the car.
A set of "easy-outs" to remove sheared off bolts and studs.

dont bother with a tap and die set, you will get all the stuff you dont need , you will probably find the following usefull.
1/4 unc tap
5/16 unc tap
3/8 unc tap
these will chase out most threads on your car, i wouldnt bother with dies , if a bolt is damaged replace it. if you need any other taps or dies it would probably be more economical to borrow them (for the cost of a pint

)

If you're starting by doing specific jobs on the car rather than stripping the whole thing. It might be an idea to see what tools you need for that particular job, that way you'll be able to keep adding to your tool kit as you go

I'd guess your mig needs a service,new liner etc.
Some of your metric will work on imperial stuff,like 11mm-7/16,13mm-1/2 and so on. It's not a perfect fit so best not used on engine or safety items but good for body/bumpers and the like.

Machine Mart do a reasonable UNC/UNF tap and die set for £23, not the best quality but more than good enough for cleaning threads.

I bought one and have found it really useful. However when it comes to cleaning threads on the engine block for headbolts, timing cover, manifolds, sump etc you will need a set of plug taps (The Tap and Die company do a set of UNC sizes). Tapered taps like the ones from machine mart won't clean to the bottom of the thread. This is all essential for getting the correct torque setting (along with thread lube).
I find a good steel brush on a bench grinder is better for cleaning up bolts and their threads, but I have found the dies useful for lengthening threads on bolts etc.
The brake flaring kit I have does any type but you need NPT (not BSP or metric) fittings.

Dave mentioned Eazy Outs. I've never had much luck with them but my set are cheap and rubbish. I always end up drilling bolts/studs out and picking the rest out with a scriber.
Sorry Newport100, don't know your name. Yes I'm hoping go up tomorrow and be racing. If you come up Sunday we could travel back together?

A 1/2" combi spanner will do most of the nuts......
