I have a pair of Hoosier 5590 115/27.5-15 Radiale that I would like to use on my 68 Satellite. I want to buy a pair of Cragar steel wheels but will 8"x15" be ok or do I need 10"x15"? Also will they fit in my stock wheelarches (68 Satellite)? The 8"x15" have 4" backspacing and the 10"x15" have 4.25" backspacing.

Cheers.

115?

If that is 11.5 inches they are too wide for 8-inch wheels. Go for the 10.

Yes that is 11.5" and as I understand it you can use an 8" rim with this size. (Reference moparts tech archive and tyre manufacturer charts). I agree with you though Dave, I would prefer to go with 10" but don't think it will fit in the wheelarch.

I would have thought the sidewall would be less stable on a wheel that narrow. In particular with low pressure.
If so that can bite you back if the car gets out of shape.

Looking at the references again Dave, most refered to street tyres in that size. So I think you could be right.

can you get an 8.5 wheel martin or i would downsize the slick to a 10 or 10.5 on an 8" wheel you dont need a slick that wide

They are a pair of ex ASCAR (free) tyres Duncan, just thought I'd try them out.

Yes I thought the price was right Duncan LOL.

I just measured them up and the tread is 11.5", diameter 27.5" and distance from bead to bead is 10". I think 8" rims might be pushing it. Sectional width looks about 13".

I tried my 295 (11.5-inch) rear tyres on 8 inch rims when i first got them because i was told "they would fit".
They looked wrong, stupid and slightly dangerous to me.

A tyre wall is designed to work in a vertical plane. Not at 45 degrees.

These are my 10-inch wide slicks on 10-inch wide wheels.

They look right to me.

What offset do those wheels have Dave and is the bodywork modified at all?

Errr.

Arch lips cut. Springs are on offset hangers. Wheels have 5.5-inch backspace if I remember right? :?

I run 10.5 slicks with bags of room. Inboard springs, mini tubs, narrowed 8 3/4.
