Baseline the mixture screws 1 1/2 turns out , pump shot has no bearing on idle , also check for any vac leaks , as this is more likely the cause.
Have you done anything to the carb since it was running ok?

Drop the RPM to below 1000 , should sort the "running on".
When the ignition timing is altered , the carb would normally be dialled in too.

They go leaner when you put them in gear. Best to adjust mixture for max rpm in gear with an auotomatic.
Also if you don't have enough stall speed it will pull the rpms down.
If you have vacuum on the dizzy port at idle your idle circiuts will not work correctly or at all. You have to get the primary throttle blades more closed until vacuum goes to zero at the dizzy port. If rpms go to low to get to that point you have to open the secondarys slightly with the little screw on the passenger side of the baseplate or, as a last resort, drill two small holes in the primary throttle blades.
Unless you have a absolutely huge cam there is no reason why you cannot make it idle quite happily at 800-900 rpm.

There is still a dizzy port on the carb. Seeing if there is vacuum on it at idle is nothing to do with the dizzy and everything to do with being on the idle circuits.
